Funny you mention this, on delivery ours would not shut and the dealer swapped it over from another car - or go to the dealer, tear one out from a demo and BAM - (that was a joke)

Am I the only one who has trouble braking smoothly? I need to almost lift my heel off the floor to get to the brake pedal. I have big---ish feet [12]. Other vehicles are ok.

Actually, this is a gripe I have with my previous two cars, a Focus and a Corolla and it's happening in the Golf too.

It makes me wonder how the temperature guage goes to the midway point and just sits there, no matter how cold or hot it is outside. My Skyline temp guage used to vary under load, or when hot. When it was cold it sat just under the midway mark.

But the temperature guage just sits in one spot seemingly regardless of temperature outside. And that makes me wonder if the thing is working. So far, I don't even think my radiator fan has come on in this heat we're experiencing in Melbourne.

Just a thought.

1 thing that frustrates me is the lack of temp gauge in my GT Sport TSI. Also the numberless boost gauge. it's a neat little trick but doesn't really tell you anything about the pressures the car is boosting to.

Perhaps the temp guage is calibrated to display a middle reading for a range of operating temps - probably to keep over anxious owners out of service centres...

That's because your skyline had a crappy cooling system

The temperature you see is your coolant temperature and I can't speak for the Corolla and Focus (their sensor may have been weighted to cater for the stupid people) but the temperature in the Golf sits at around the same temperature all the time. From memory it's around 98 degrees.

But the temperature guage just sits in one spot seemingly regardless of temperature outside. And that makes me wonder if the thing is working. So far, I don't even think my radiator fan has come on in this heat we're experiencing in Melbourne.

You don't have to worry about it, the car handles it all for you. If there's a problem the car will let you know.

That is precisely what a thermostat is supposed to do, regulate the tempererature and it does so by allowing a greater flow of coolant when it is hot and a lesser flow when it is cool thereby maintaining a constant temperature which is the ideal temperature for engine operation. This thread is about what annoys you about your MkV, surely you aren't complaining because the cooling system is operating as designed even in the extreme heat?

but apparently it may not work with ECU flashed cars.

Should have mentioned ours is a TDI so we needed the 0 - 30 gauge.

That was not about when I looked for a gauge - neat find.

noob question but would this boost gauge work for the twin charged engines? and how hard are they to install?

Yes, as it is displaying the pressure in the intake, be that from the super or turbo charger, it won't matter.

If you are handy around a car - allow 2.5 hours cos you need to take your time and there are some fiddly bits.
