Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Nice.

    You absolutely must chip it.

Audi S3 engine under your bonnet = 230kw when chipped = VERY fast golf.

I certainly expect not all to see the value in this car, yet for me, it was something that I had wanted ever since buying the Jetta(And yes, I still own the plates QLD).

Looks great, you have a care that will always be rare without being an orphan.

Full kudos for buying emotionally, unlike IT technicians who can get so tied up in "analysis paralysis" they don't buy anything because it never fits 100% (I know this because I have been in the IT industry since 1978 and having all the required aptitudes for it can lead to being a very boring dinner guest at times )

My wife's car is a Sirion GTVi we bought on emotion in 2001 - on analysis, it was too dear, looks a bit funny, doesn't go that well because of the auto she has to have, very low volume niche car, etc. But she still loves it today, because she liked it better than the far more practical second choice car (can't remember what that was, actually).

I also bought the GTI on emotion - my analysis of what I needed zeroed me in on the GT TDI DSG (a little white lie here - actually it was an I30 diesel but thankfully I kept looking), but the test drive left me a little indifferent - the salesman suggested the GTI would tick all my boxes and more, and he was right. I use more fuel than a TDI but I love driving it every day

Yellow has always been my favourite colour, but I would be tempted to have the yellow stiching in the steering wheel (and the shift boot) dyed black, before it inevitably becomes discoloured from sweaty hands.

I looked at the missus and said, "We're not driving this car home because you wanted 5 doors...just so you know " I can be very cheeky! When I mentioned we could get 18" rims very, very cheap, she replied "Don't even think about it" ;-(.

I must say that I'm becoming sa great fan of the Pirelli alloys, good design, finish & size.

having been passenger in many of bj240z cars i would also stain/dye the seat brown. before they inevitably becomes discoloured too.

you realise if you get it chipped i will need to have another drive for comparison. mike also said "someones going to have some fun" when i spoke to him today.

              congrats again.

Nope, uni-directional. A good way to tell is that you'll be able to see the word "outside" on the tyre. its in the top left of the tyre.

Was at a couple of dealers yesterday and no Yellow Pirelli GTi's, all blue.
Then got told by the last dealer that even though all the advertising was done with a yellow car only 3 came through to Australia. So how much fact I dont know.

For the very same reason ... I'm going 'fishing' tomorrow ... and when I come home ... swmbo may notice that the engine growls a little lower than usual ... she may even notice the silver of the FMIC behind the grill. To which I'll say: ... "Oh ... that ol thing ... had that for years." Just like she does with new shoes or clothes. (Then I'll have to redo my sig to say something like 130.3 kw ATW and add FMIC to mod list.)

I just sat in a Yellow 3dr Pirelli with DSG at Camberwell.

Dealer reckons there are a few around, more than 3 according to his system.
