Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • So I just picked up my GTI Pirelli...

And Damm! What more can i say! It's graphite blue and has the rear parking sensors, which I think just about all of them are getting anyway. It really is such a different car to the Jetta Turbo I traded in.

If anyone is thinking about it, just get do it, you won't be dissapointed. there is some turbo lag there, certainly more then what the Jetta had, but it is worth the wait, especially when u hit the noisey peddle at speed, it still has plenty of punch to give!

    So...who's up for a drive???

Well done .. possibly the first on the forum? I got a call on Thursday to go and have a look at one in the showroom at Solitaire. My first impressions from pics is that I don't like the seat inserts, but frankly I am too scared to go in in case they look better in the flesh!

        Also only available in DSG!!

I'll have to keep my GTI for a while yet .. swap time when the GTI-R 4motion comes out?

Hope you got a good price. With the inflated RRP and the 11% drop in the market last month (probably a trend that's going to continue), VW seems to be having problems selling the Pirelli.

They sent me two brochures and then followed up with a phone call asking me to come in store. You don't bother with all that marketing if sales is good.

IMO it looks like a fantastic model, but with the MKVI around the corner I expected them to bring out a limited edition with plenty of bonuses for the same price or cheaper than the GTI, to keep up sales of a discontinued model.

Having worked in Merchandising in IT, where model life is only 3 months, I did a huge amount of work keeping sales up on end of life product. And a premium product built on last generation's technology at a premium price seldom walks out the door. However a premium product built on last generation's (cheaper) technology at an unbeatable bargain price is a fantastic way to shift a lot of stock very quickly.

The lad does have a point, but sooner or later you just have to buy, there's always going to be better and newer models, and even future discounts.

Thing is sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet!

Congrats on the FLASH new car, definately one of the first!

How can you try to rationalise a passion like cars trying to apply general statistics to something that ultimately your buying purely for the joy of it?

I saw well done and congratulations. They sure do look impresive and I bet they pack quite a punch too. I look forward to seeing some pics real soon once you can pull yourself away from the wheel.

Almost every purchase we make is one of emotion rather than logic. Whether it be cars, computers, clothes or even food. Food is a necessity, yet we buy based on taste, colour, texture, marketing, image...

We temper our emotional purchase by rationalising it with price.

I don't see success in VW's marketing strategy for the Pirelli. Hence the astute buyer should rake VW across the coals and get a good price.

P.S. Why does everyone dislike the tire tread seats? I like 'em much better than the tartan (which I'm going to be stuck with cause I can't have leather).

He who has not, wants want yee other has. Yee who has tasted such, knows how sweet it can be. For some, the joy of others is all the matters. For others, they see no joy but in themselves, by mocking, rationalising and degrading a pure emotional choice. A wise person once said to me, "Never let someone tell you how to feel!" Wise indeed.

I certainly expect not all to see the value in this car, yet for me, it was something that I had wanted ever since buying the Jetta(And yes, I still own the plates QLD).

So, for those of you who welcome the addition, thank you...and here are the photos.

                          Tyre Tread Seats

I'll let you all in on a little secret....the tyre tread seats are very sticky! Which helps the missus stay seat bound in the twisty stuff, much more so then ye old Jetta seats. I'm sure the standard Tartan would do something similar???

Maris...I totally agree, and the only reason why i don't have one, is that I had to have 5 doors, else you'd see photos of the Yellow one. The yellow 3 door was actually sittig right next to mine on Saturday when I picked it up. I looked at the missus and said, "We're not driving this car home because you wanted 5 doors...just so you know " I can be very cheeky! But, having said that, i love the blue graphite...it looks very hansome in the flesh.
