Having been taken for a drive in Guys Golf GTI, I'd be very interested in seeing what it's like in a 'Stage 2' car with DSG. I'll be in Melbourne in November too...
Definitely give me a yell and ill take you for a drive Jon. I'm sure you will be surprised by how well this VF RSS kit performs.
Caught up with the boy tonight, Tony and Hong from golfmkv whilst getting a custom tune flashed from GIAC by Eurospeed.
Saw Hong's new toy, a Peloquin DSG LSD. His also ordered the VF RSS kit. And because of that I've decided to get the RSR kit with new internals . I believe his will be the first to put a LSD on a DSG gearbox in Aus.
Here's some photos he took.
It weights about 20 kgs, but the stock diff in the dsg probably weighs the same too.
How hard was the install and how long did it take. I know there is so machining required.
I'm interested in how the DSG LSD is done, do you have any images of the installs?? Like to see the internals.
How much did you charge for fitting?
I don't think you will really feel the difference of the LSD on the road. Mostly the benefits will be felt on the track or drags. Hence why I'm planning on getting the most power out and see what the DSG can handle in terms of power before messing with it.
Are those guys with the install on the forum, would like to get some direct feedback off them
Very nice.
roughly how long did it take to install?
did the engine need to come out?
Is it a clutch pack type 1.5way LSD or is a viscous type LSD?
do you have these members contacts so i can gather more information off them?
Cheers
All the diffs were installed by VW dealers - only machining is the rivets which hold the main gear on the diff centre. ~ 10 hours to install dealer time, so not too bad.
Big difference - one of the cars has the APR 240kw K04 kit on it & the customer raves about the difference and the ability to put the power down.
TRGTI, they are a torque biasing differential, I have the phone number of one customer who gives his a hard time. One of the others was done for a dealer who is using it for track training / tarmac rally type stuff. Send me an email & I'll put you in touch with an owner.
A full clutch type (as far as I know for manual gearbox only) when I priced one in June were $7500 USD + Shipping - for a full race car this is the way to go, but too expensive for me & our track times in our 400hp GTI are pretty good
If you talk to Dean at Volkspower, he has a TBD installed in his GTI (APR 240kw) - he has just run it at Phillip Island & Sandown, so he can give your the rundown on how it works & what its like on the street as well.
I thought the one in Dean's car was installed by Kozi previously when he was racing.
I thought your car isn't tuned to 400hp as you haven't changed the internals and the stock internals will break or failure easier with 400hp?
I'm confused now
With your S3/ED30 it makes 240kw right, is that at the wheels or fly?
Howcome Dean hasn't got the Stage 3 system on his car? Why only just a K04?
Hong's getting his VF RSS kit soon, hopefully before Christmas, can't wait, will have a brother now for my car. VF have been flat out with kit, with so many sold in the US and elsewhere, they can't send his kit faster
Our car runs 400hp no problems - dyno verified, we just dont want to go Race gas (104 ron) because that gives 322kw (433hp) which would endanger our internals!
Dean is sticking to a Cam's class, going to run it as an edition 30 homologation in the future (which runs this turbo) - with different software etc, he can still be eligible, where stage 3 is not. We have to do some software changes for it, but I think his next event is Mt Buller sprint.
Here is a couple of wheel dyno's from them (at the wheels)
Can I see the 400hp dyno (300kw), like to see the curve. I've only seen your 230kw dyno. Did you ramp up the boost for the 400hp power output? What boost levels are you running for when you drive it daily.
Just want to compare, because when I'm driving it daily I'm running at 21psi from 3800rpm to redline. I can ramp it up to 27psi which I haven't done yet, as I'm still getting used to the extra power it makes at 21psi. Don't want to kill myself yet
A K04 isn't really a big turbo kit unlike a kit that comprises of a GT28RS like yours and mine. Don't see the relevance of comparing a K04 based kit to a GT28RS based kit.
You remember that article that was written back in July in the UK, where they compared the Regal RSS against the Awesome APR Stage 3 and Morego cars. Did they find out what cause the Awesome APR Stage 3 to go into limp mode?
We only run > 24psi of boost, never run any higher than that, we don't have adjustable boost programs as the tuning is a little more precise than that, and the fuelling is critical. We hold 21 - 22psi all the way to red line from 3700, but any GT2871R will do that.
The K04's are interesting, mainly because you don't have a dyno of yours & they put out over 200wkw, where some of the old GT series kits struggle to do that. They are technically "A big turbo" and make excellent horsepower!
The Awesome car - yes, know it well, when I was in the UK I worked on it. They had this funny boost gauge fitting (not sure - maybe Forge or similar) that you had to cut a hose close to the intake manifold, and it developed a split in it which caused a loss of boost over time, and under full throttle runs it would go into limp. Took them a while to find it & eliminate it, but its been good as gold since they replaced that piece.
I would only go with the 27psi tune when I get forged internals. Wouldn't do that with stock internals.
So at the moment your running 24psi?
RSS kit is detuned to run 21psi only for reliability with OEM engine internals.
RSR kit with the forged internals runs 27psi. Still uses the same turbo as the RSS and all done on pump gas from what I know.
Unfortunately haven't had the time to get a dyno run, but it will be done soon. This time of the year and the industry I'm in, I need to be in the office from 8am to 9pm (damn daylight saving).
Did you forget to post your 400hp dyno. I was looking forward to seeing it.
Was it fixed before the GTI International Day. I remember Regal RSS came on top of it again.
