Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Stop Scratching Your Rear End and the rest of your chassis with our specially formulated soft plastic jack pads. PROTECH pads provide complete protection from the hard metal surface of your jack, preventing scratches, chips and dents forever when used properly. Stop using those blocks of wood, rags, and towels that can slip or tear through resulting in damage to your chassis. PROTECH'S jack pads come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit almost any jack on the market today, from our simple over the jack head style to the side lift jack pads for lifting late model cars at the pinch weld. The jack pads are made of an extremely durable, patented material that's impervious to oil, grease and gas and will last a lifetime. As some of you may have noticed our protective pads have changed from yellow to black. We made this move to save on production costs and reduce lead times. The quality is still the same! The side lift jack pad makes lifting your late model cars easy. Simply place on your floor jack and lift at the pinch weld. No more hassle with the factory scissor jack. Priced individually.

No. I ordered part no 1007. Apparently the difference is the bottom of the pad.

            Read the owner's manual.

The jacking point's are on the sill panels & there are arrow's pressed into the sill panel to indicate this.

The sill jacking point's are also much thicker too. Like 5mm thick! You won't do any damage at all.

You don't need any fancy tool's or jacking pad's. It's strong enough.

Where do you think the dealer's put the hoist arm's on all your car's?

Yes, I watched them at Solitaire this week, they have very thick Foam/Rubber blocks.

I don't believe also that any mechanic who cares would use a trolley jack without rubber pad. Metal on metal is no good it will damage paint and deform metal at these jacking points. (Despite of tough paint on sill panel and stronger metal-the front of the golf is quite heavy).

I'm not sure about how cars stand up these days but when I was fixing cars, they still crushed at the jacking points if you weren't careful - Fords were particularly bad.

It doesn't hurt to take some precautions.
