Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i dont use my stupid VW jack thats for sure.

The first time i used the piece of **** it slipped on the concrete while the car was off the ground, and the car bent it. Very lucky it didnt damage the car, i got another jack through warranty.

      I only use ramps now.

So where do you place it would be helpful not needing a slotted pad?

I just use a big 2ton trolley jack (as that's what I have at home) & how I use it depend's on how low the car is.

The sill panels are strong as in the jacking point's, as that's where the hoist arm/pads go onto.

If you have alook for the arrow's along the sill, you'll see how thick the sill get's at those point's in question.

I usually try & jack off a chassis point rather than the body.

I've done that with all my cars, the front of the Mk V looks a little trickier.

I'm not prepared to take a chance.

Stop Scratching Your Rear End and the rest of your chassis with our specially formulated soft plastic jack pads. PROTECH pads provide complete protection from the hard metal surface of your jack, preventing scratches, chips and dents forever when used properly. Stop using those blocks of wood, rags, and towels that can slip or tear through resulting in damage to your chassis. PROTECH'S jack pads come in a variety of sizes and styles to fit almost any jack on the market today, from our simple over the jack head style to the side lift jack pads for lifting late model cars at the pinch weld. The jack pads are made of an extremely durable, patented material that's impervious to oil, grease and gas and will last a lifetime. As some of you may have noticed our protective pads have changed from yellow to black. We made this move to save on production costs and reduce lead times. The quality is still the same! The side lift jack pad makes lifting your late model cars easy. Simply place on your floor jack and lift at the pinch weld. No more hassle with the factory scissor jack. Priced individually.
