Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • P0171, P0174, P0441 Fuel Trim Evap Emissions Fault Codes

My Mk5 R32 has started throwing the above error codes and yesterday illuminated the check engine light. Anybody had experience with these codes or know common things I should be checking? The car still drives fine but does seem to stumble a bit on startups so it doesn't seem too serious.

kept getting the p0441 on my mk5 gti, seemed to have fixed it by replacing my bosch n80 valve and evap canister thing

after you clear the codes, does it take long for them to come back? chipped at all?

I got the P0441 code sorted, turned out to be a bad hose on the charcoal canister. Replaced that and that code hasn't come back, neither has the check engine light so it seems like that's what was triggering it. The other 2 are still occuring, if I clear them they're back within a few hours. It does have a stage 1 ECU remap on it but it's had it for a while. Will see what VW reckons when it goes in for a service in a few weeks.

Howdy - just curious if you had these resolved?

I recently bought a MkV R32 too, and think it was throwing similar codes.

Car still hasn't gone in for a service. Should be in a few weeks and I'll report back if they say anything. Check engine light and related fault code is sorted, was just a bad charcoal canister hose not sealing properly. I replaced it myself and fixed that one.

Well...all 3 codes came back today and the CEL is back on. Still waiting to get the car in for a service. I really hope this turns out to be something minor, I'm so over losing my car to the dealership for days just to have no solution.

                Crap.

I hear you! My R32 has been in the workshop almost as long as I’ve owned it.

Good luck with the codes. Have you looked at the Ross Tech error code forum?

Bad PCVs are a common cause of poor running and lean codes.

PCV has already been replaced. It ruptured last time so it's very obvious when the PCV is bad.

Just waiting to get into VW for them to work it out.
