OK, I bit the bullet and booked the new old Golf in for a factory VW service and rego check (I know... $$$ but I figured the car hasn’t seen a dealer for the last 100k according to service record and I definitely do not know what the car has missed out on in the past).

Bonus: 3 out of 4 door actuators have failed at some point or other in its life and the indicators suddenly failed, then didn’t fail, then failed again this morning.

I’ll report on work and cost... I know it won’t be pretty.

    total waste of money.

There are several VW specialists in Sydney that will do a more thorough job.

You will be quoted on things you don't need and they will miss obvious faults.

I must agree...on a 10+ year old car you will spend 20% of its value on overpriced OEM parts and paying for dealership mechanics time who are no longer trained on this platform. Based on your location within Sydney, I would seek out a local independent VW/Euro specialist (or which there are quite a few around) and take it there.

Yes. I know. I wanted to get the dealer view of the world. Not too bad, but their suggested optional repairs were out of this world. At least I know what to ask VW Village now. I’ll be bringing the old girl in soon... promise.

Relatively pain free, a clean rego check and a list of things to take care of.

i should say that VW quoted over $2,500 to fix my three dead door locks... don’t worry, I won’t pay that. I’ll get a quote from VW Villiage and possibly buy knock off parts off eBay and do the job myself... anyone know how much a good independent will charge per door?
