Waiting now for US suppliers to get back to me on shipping for the EBC rotors.
When we tried to get the EBC rotors I ended up speaking to a tech at EBC in the UK as none of the US suppliers had them. It turned out that they had never made them and didn't have any plans to. They designed them and added them to the catalogue but never made the actual rotor. Now this was around 18 months ago so it may have changed but why not just get the stock slotted rotors from ECS in the US, you'll get all four slotted landed in Australia for the same price you can buy one rotor here. There's nothing wrong with the stock rotors the race team used them both here and in the UK and I've used them for every event & track day I've run in with no warping or problem with fade.

Also I have upgraded all my brake lines from the reservoir with braided lines and you do notice a hell of a difference with them. Just don't buy some cheap kit from the web take it to Sherrins or a similar motorsport shop and have it done properly to ADR specifications as the US lines to not meet ADR's, also get a decent brake fluid as mentioned above.

      Cheers Al

Yeah I'm starting to think along those lines Al. The rotor dimensions seem to be in imperial measurements and EBC haven't given me satisfactory feedback of the metric dimensions.
Problem with ECS is that delivery is not until september tenth.
I'm leaning towards the too hard basket and just go the oem rotors from german autoparts as they're at the minimum already.

        • ECS tuning has excessivly crap customer service

they sent me Centre caps for my BBS RCs i had on my MKIV GTI (man i miss those mags)

the centrecaps arrived bent and dented yet they were in a bubble packed carboard box.. and the carboard box was fine.. i sent 10 emails regarding that.. they never replied back yet they have the cheek to email me their montly specials all the time..

Buy genuine rotors and any good machine shop should be able to slot them on their Mill (this way you can get as many slots as you want.. and the angle you want them cut on...

my Zimmermans were free (oh lucky me )

          but yeah...

          up to you bro..
my local machine shop machined me up all of my rotors with 6 slots on each face and forward facing slots (i prefer that look) 50 bucks a rotor.. they came up mintee

just get some nice Factory VW pads if your around town.. should keep everything nice and quiet.. and when you go to the track get some hard core **** and just swap them in before you hit the track.. shouldnt take you more than 20 minutes to swap out pads with general garage tools

          • also

you want either Dot 4 or Dot 5.1

Dot 5 is waaaay different to the above to and will destroy your ABS components and miscellaneous other braking related components its silica based (or something along those lines)

They are genuine VW R32 rotors just slotted by ECS, (Yes they sell their own brand but they also sell genuine VW) As I said I have used them in numerous tarmac rallies here as well as track days once a month with Pagid race pads with no issues at all. The exact same OEM VW rotors here for one front rotor are the same price as you will pay for 4 OEM VW rotors slotted front and rear and shipped UPS from ECS or you could use PartsforVW for that matter they offer the same.

Sorry to hear you had a bad expierience with them but up to now with ordering from them since I got the car new in Feb 04 I have had no issues. I always find it is best to call and place your order whether it is ECS or any OS supplier rather than using the online ordering system, that way you have a name to speak to if anything god forbid goes awry.

              • Well my new plan is to now get the OEM rotors and maybe get them slotted myself by a local brake place or machinist.
We'll see how we go once the rotors arrive.

                • Well OEM rotors have been ordered from the US. Total cost to me will be much less than what VW here want for one rotor.
Now I need to find a vaguely local reputable machinist who can slot them for me.

                    • Thanks Al. I shot him an email will hopefully hear back soonish.
Talk of engineering certs required for braided lines and the fact that the ones I looked at only went to the main line means that I will hold off on them for the moment. So no other goodies for the moment other than the brakes.

The car got a good wash today and I gave the interior a good vacuum and treated the dash and leather. I swear it goes better when it's all nice and shiny.
                      Cheers,

                        • I must say I really do hope the Redstuff pads are as low dust as they claim to be. The amount of dust on my wheels this evening was quite depressing considering I've only done 70 odd kms since I washed her yesterday morning.

                          • Yeah, I've got the same wheels on mine and they are painful to watch how quickly the brake dust gathers on them after they are nice and clean. I use that Wheel Wax to try minimising it and it helps slow down the build up, but they're a pain to wax as well.

                            Snowy.

                              • So the rotors have shipped and are now on their way. Mike Webber has said he'd be able to slot them for me on his CNC machine. Now I just have to settle on a design. I've done up a few designs in AutoCAD which are below.
The ECS tuning OEM rotors have eight slots, Hitman got six slots for his Zimmermans and lastly I thought I'd go a bit crazy and do a sixteen slot design. Thoughts on the designs or opinions on which would be better?
