New ride: '02 MK4 GTI

fitted the TIP last night. A somewhat simple job turned into a bit of a **** of a job for a few reasons.

heres a pic of my new rims also... arrived thursday. will start stripping and repairing them soon.

18x8 Audi A8 rims. 1 in good nick, 3 are rashed up. Going to strip, repair and paint.. Have to decide what colour to go however. I dont want to go black, as you lose the rims in the wheel well, but i have to think of something that will go well with silver and not stand out like dogs balls too much.

You should still consider a chip (ECU reflash), it brings out the best in the 1.8T. IMO the 1.8T's are just comuters without it (especially with the extra torque thats going to be sucked up by those heavy rims).

With the exhaust, the new TIP, the N75J and the cranked wastegate, its actually running "zippy enough". its not going to maul anything, and to be honest im a bit beyond that. Ive had a few powerful cars in the past and at this point im not going to chase more power. If things get boring in a year, ill reinvestigate chipping the gti.

Installed the clarion headunit today. Pretty easy job really. Remove the digital climate to get access, insert 4 cut up coat hangers and pull it out. Had to switch a couple wires over, but with Golfs and Clarion being ISO plugs, its a breeze. Very happy with how it looks and i think it suits the factory look in addition to my boost gauge. Will get a night shot of the whole dash when it gets dark..



-edit- still havent been able to find the source of my problem with no cig lighter power. theres 12v either side of the cig lighter fuse, but nothing at the plug.

leighaus: Have you gone for a drive in a chipped mk4 GTI? i too was in the same boat as you thought car was pretty decent power wise until i went for a drive in a mates chipped GTI, needless to say I'm now chipped and as a bonus i now get even better mileage out of a tank of gas

hey fizz. Cant say i have been in a chipped gti. Dont know any other mk4 owners at this point either. Ill try and get along to a VWW melbourne meet soon and hopefully have a passenger ride in one for a bit.

ride harshness is pretty good.



going to lower the rear more and raise the front slightly (as im scrubbing a bit).

and obviously a huge wash/detail is in need.

yea I've seen then, i don't have the dosh for them atm as i may be buying the wheels he selling! i still have to service my car aswell, feels like everything always comes at the same time!!

once the streets settled she was too low in the front. been meaning to raise it for a quite some time but just didnt get around to it. Scrubbing on the guard liner and even the inner arch evident and the strut brace rubbing on the driveshaft.. eek.

raised the car a bit in the front, have left the rear for the time being. car is driving more smoothly on the roads (due to damper being less out of whack). will have to take it for a drive in the dry and see if i can accelerate and turn without scrubbing now.
