booked my car in for a rocker cover gasket to be replaced as its leaking.
Clutch pedal to be adjusted as its crunching sometimes..
And i believe the remained of my old catalytic converter has all now blown out through the rest of the system. Hell yeah for no more rattle!Last edited by dylan8; 14-04-2011, 02:27 PM.

Thanks guys, i'm all fine which is the main thing, just very frustrating. I had a look through the 'Recommended repairers' section and couldn't really see much for Melbourne, so does anyone have a body shop/accident repair place they'd like to recommend? I dont want to hack this thread so feel free to PM me any suggestions. Would be much appreciated.
Vinyl decals could be interesting if done tastefully, dont think ive ever seen them done on wheels...MkIV Bora [SOLD]

Removed a wheel to begin replacing my brake discs and pads, then thought I'd check behind the wheel arch liner ...
Found 10 years of dirt ... - even stuff from my trip to Lake Mungo!
No wonder the farmers have been having a tough time - I've got all their topsoil!
All clean!
If you haven't checked yours and your car is roughly around the same vintage I'd get in there before you start to see some rust ...Last edited by RolfGolf; 18-04-2011, 12:28 AM.

I found the same behind my arches last week. Definitely worth cleaning out for those who haven't already done so (easy to remove the liner).
I finished rerouting my fan wiring to external resistors on Saturday night. It was a bit fiddly but it's all done and my fans are back to normal... Besides the squeal I get when they first start up.2000 Mk IV GTI

ill have to do my other arch as well.
Took the wheel off to find what was making all the mess.
Drivers side outer CV boot seems to have let go... wheel and inside of the arch is covered in grease

FYI the dirt and debris seems to come from under the window cowl - there is a hole leading down to the guard.
I changed my air filter and cabin/pollen filter tonight. Both are very easy to do. My air con doesn't have that moist smell anymore but maybe I'm imagining things.
Also have some Shell Helix Ultra and oil filter to do this week. Then I'll replace the broken front bumper mount and possibly clean out the side-mount intercooler when the bumper's off.
If anyone is interested I paid about $40-45 each for the air and cabin filters!! The oil filter was $20 and the front bumper mount, to my surprise, was only $16 or so (all from the VW dealer).2000 Mk IV GTI

i've cleaned up that gunk twice before, a year ago i cleaned it up because i took off my front bumper.
then a year later, i had one wheel well off, and there was almost as much gunk as before!
cleaned the car tonight, not the easiest time of day to clean your car, had to get the torch out at one stage to get the wheels
Got a lot of driving coming up over the easter hols!
