  • Not today but two days ago, noticed a massive grinding noise from the front left, when turning left.

Took the wheel off to find my sway bar not connected to the end links and only the bolt just hanging there... Lucky no damage as far as i can tell, and also managed to find a nut floating around at home that fitted.

Warning to all idiots like me, don't rely on a rattle gun and quick inspections when playing with your car!

Cleaned seats with Z9 and conditioned with Z10. This stuff is awesome!

Also managed somehow to get 3 hideously large stone chips on drivers door by a passing truck.
Might have to give that stuff a go - the Oroton leather cleaner/conditioner (from one of my wife's handbags) is only so good...
      Nothing to see here...

      • Just had the timing belt and full service done at Golfwagen. Superb customer service (my wife had to take it as I'm working away) and all for a reasonable price.

        Thanks guys.

for myself, im going to rip out the box tomorrow morning or today and send it away and hopefully it'll be 113! hopefully more so i can get car together before melb next week!
Pierre did you need to trim the ends down at all? Hopefully that's only necessary on the Polos. Also wondering if you put a screw in every tab - there's 9 on each side! - or if every 2nd is ok etc? Gonna have a look at it tomorrow

          Cheers

          • Preventative (metal impeller) water pump swap @ 150k booked in.

And yet another char-grilled ignition coil bites the dust. What is it with these coils? Almost tricked us and gave us both a heart-attack, but thankfully JMac was all over it...

              • Picked up the Bora with PSS9s and adjustable rear control arms on it, and then went and got an alignment done. Gonna let them settle a bit, then back to the workshop to have them adjusted for final(ish) height.

hav eyou posted them yet? otherwise just call me ill collect. ps i have a kvw come for you this week lol (FINALLY YES!) (yes useless lol)

And i will also be testing the Keyless Entry Systems as well for mk4/mk5's .. thought id mention that.
For those who are thinking "but i already have keyless entry", its proximity entry which means as you walk up to the vehicle the vehicle unlocks itself without the press of any buttons and locks the vehicle as you walk away as well. :p More info this week hopefully!

Washed the car today too actually. Didn't get any pics coz it's not sitting even as it settles down, might grab some anyway tomorrow though.

                          • Ah back to the sweet sound of six!

4Motion owners: it might be a good preventative exercise (and perfect excuse to drink beer in this heat) to pull your coils out to check their condition.

The one that failed last week due to heat had snapped clean off in the bore. But a few JMac tricks (and quite a bit of muscle) later, all's well. Zip ties FTW eh Jimmy

The others were either absolutely perfect or required only a slight dusting with 1200 sandpaper to remove some of the build up that should be there if the coil is doing it's job.

Jimmy also recommended removing the heat shield from one as it's a bit redundant, considering the rubber sleeve seals snuggly around the plugs. New coil going in shortly to replace that one anyway.

Also may have another diagnostic fix for noisy auxiliaries (but more R&D needed on that one... )
