yeah they do kinda look like rota grids, they are made by Australia | Koya Wheels not everyone's taste im sure but i dig 'em. thanks for the advice re: offset, might keep an eye out for a pair of 5-10mm spacers

      • Nice. I've been wondering what the Rota style wheels would look like on a mk4 golf.. should be interesting, can't wait to see what they look like!

        • tow bar installation, the bar is a pain, not exactly right, the wiring is a plug and play dream though. Haman reese oem, bought from the forum here.
It hides very well, not even really visible with the draw bar unbolted

            • $900 is for the crown wheel and pingion. Part only.
Previous job was close to $1000 labour. It was box out, crown wheel pulled, rivets removed new bolts, reassamble. $400 parts.
What appears to have been missed is damage to the pingion, and news today:1st gear. Driving around for a week has then caused the failure.
So it will now get the new crown wheel and pingion $900, new 1st gear $485.
Labour will be free as mechanic said he took the gamble to not strip the box any further than the diff to fix the obvious rivet problem. That gamble did not pay a dividend and the box needs to come out again.

So I'm up for another $1500 this week on top of the $1400 last week. And maybe a wheel bearing if that is the cause of the other "noise".

So the bill is getting very close to my original nightmare case of a $3K reco box + labour.

Nah not likely. some parts are only available locally as OEM = VW Aust.
The crown wheel an pingion was $900 locally, part number 02A 409 143L. I found it listed around $650 on US sites. So given how Aussies get ripped its about the right price
I could probably save a few bucks here and there but I'd have to wait for the yanks to get over the their storm etc and be without a car for another week etc. Hopefully I can pick up the car on Friday arvo.

                    • Yeah, fair enough.

Most days you can fight it & win,
other days you just have to take it on the chin..

The quality is really nice, that loom is awesome, so easy.

With the towbar in square the bolt holes on the right were not lining up, simply drilled a new hole in the leg on the bar, using the original vw hole in the car.
Also for it all to fit, the draw bar at the bottom sat too tight against the bottom of the wheel well for it to push in properly - required some panel beating to make it fit.
Seems pretty good now, getting the rear bumper sorted today. you only need to take away a small amount of plastic for the draw bar, but i didnt remove enough and the panel gaps dont line up - so off with the bumper, recut (cant get in with the bumper on) and refit.

When it's finished though, it will be really slick - without the extension bolted on, you will hardly know it is there. Still very happy with it, just a bit more of a fiddle than i prepared for. Pics when it is done

                            • I put my airbox back in the other day and have noticed lower consumption.

Yesterday I put a K&N panel filter in there also and am still only 50% through my tank (at ~240k's) which is better than usual.

Fingers crossed I can get it below 11.5 for the tank.

                              • Stan - It might even help keep the car's handling a bit mare rigid in the back? Or does it have to be connected directly to the suspension to do that?
