Thanks Gavin. I'm almost certain mine is Immo II. I'll probably have to wait until the weekend to install it now. See how I go... Can't wait...Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...

Do I have to 'drive it around' etc for a while to get it to kick in? Or do the method of: 'warm it up, do the ECU swap, then hammer it, then cruise' to get it to sync? Anything like that? What's the best method there Gavin?Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...

Yeah, that was my understanding. Anyway, Immo II looks pretty easy compared to Immo III, so I should be ok.Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...

ecu came with the engine. The immobiliser is built into the dash instrumentation, original instruments in the car.
give it a go and see how you go i guess, all the best

Up to 2000/01 erase learnt values, ign off key out for 15 secs and next ign cycle they marry up. if not then its eeprom read for skc and marry the immob to the ecu, thats it really, bare in mind and have went over this a bit and seems all have been lucky to have VDO dashes, there is 3 types and a few types are the Motometer, that ok but be prepared to have a charger on the car fo r about 3 hrs for the second pass on the password, VDO 5 mins Moto 3 hrs no question. Looks like you either have early ones and no needing to code new keys, thats when the fun begins with the 3 hr pass.
good luck anyway

Hey Jmac (or anyone else that can help)...
I followed the Ross tech instructions here: Immobilizer II ECU Swapping - Ross-Tech Wiki , which all seems fine, until I get to the bit that says "SAVE", and the vagcom program says it needs an activation code!! Help! Stuck in a mates driveway & can't move the car... Starts, but shuts off after a few seconds. Immo light flashing.
Is that Ross-Tech method I linked to what you described as 'erase learnt values'?Dark Grey Mk4 Golf, 1.8T GTI conversion, APR stage 1, stock air intake, FMIC, 3" to 2.5" Exhaust, FK AK Street Coils, Black 18" (Avant Garde M310's ?), tinted tails, ...
