Mechanic called today, yes he only got around to pulling the diff today.
The damage it limited only to the rivets shearing their heads, the gears have not been damaged, the plastic speedo gear has been chewed.
The casing of the diff have been burred up a bit.
So it needs
OEM bolt kit $333
Speedo gear - $45
Oil
Labour for rebuild etc
$1400 all up.
Speedo gear appears to be ex germany only, so a week wait on that.
I was expecting about a $3000 bill.
I'm of on holidays this weekend for 10days. I hope its ready when I get back.

Nah in the scheme of things a reco box would have been north of that before labour and oil etc, may have even put back in a box with rivets too.
I thought new box ~ $2000, labour ~ $900
I was catching the bus for a while, then my neighbour went away and loaned me his Toyota Avalon. It might be more reliable but it is like driving a boat; turn the wheel and see how far it wanders before correcting.

How do you know if you have one? Is it just any MK4 Golf with a manual gearbox?? I'm confused, I thought the bad rivets problems were limited to the 1.6L manual gearbox ? ? .. I'm ****ting myself again now.

tail-lights arrived today. Need to swap the fog/reverse cabling as are LHD spec,globes provided are wrong wattage, causing indicators to pulsate madly, and the brake light is staying on continuously which needs rectifying.
all will be done when i have the time to do it in one hit. stock lights for now

Over the last couple of weeks I have installed my 42DD 3inch DP and 2.5 cat back (thanks to Greg at carformance), APR turbo inlet pipe, forge splitter and tonight got my ECU back from Tim with the GIAC chip installed. I have been driving around all night with a big grin on my face. Very happy chappy.

well got told my break light was out in the last 2 days of GAD trip, then noticed my tail light on the same side has gone.
I seem to go through a lot of bulbs in the tail lights of my bora. as far as im aware, wiring is all stock, except for having both fog lights working when I purchased the car. Anyone else have this issue?
