  • Mr Jimmy Mac weaved his magic touch on my brakes and gearbox.
New Martini Racing Fluid has rejuvenated my brakes beautifully and Redline MT90 has sweetened my shifts gotten rid of a slight whine I had.
    JMac for the win.
    Cheers,

    • Picked it up. I now have a mk 4 so can contribute to this thread! Did flapper mod. Put on stubby aerial. Removed ugly dealer stickers. (OMG it was huge and hideous) Cleaned and conditioned seats. Put on new valve caps. Attempted to get finger mark stains out of headlining.

        • Went down the Gold Coast for a swim and fish and chips today.
Then came home and vacuumed all the sand out of the the car and then conditioned the seats.
          Happy times.

Not worth just biting the bullet and getting them all done to save you the hassle of them failing unexpectedly later on?
              Nothing to see here...

Oh maybe there is some good logic in that.
I figure the rear windows get used about 5 to every 100 times in the front.
So I'll wait till one of the rears go and do them both at the same time. But the money is better off-setting my mortgage at the moment.

                • Found a little time on Thursday to do a few things and decided to look at the Golf. Wondered about the wheelbase and after several measurements, realised that my wheelbase was out by 18mm

I got it back to within 3mm, and let me tell you I'm petrified. I've got the power back that I've been missing (holy sh!!!!!!!!!t) but the wheel alignment is out obviously.

Curiously, the tie rods do not look like they were put back together properly. I will have to sort this out before sending it off for a wheel alignment.

The institution that used to service my car left a lot to be desired.

                      How?

All the weight of the car when driving was moving towards the rear right of the car. When accelerating it was like a dog, unless I was on an left sided slope.

                      Why ?

People you pay $$$ to work on your car can't do what they have been instructed and paid to do in an orderly fashion. It was just put back together, with little consideration to certain aspect. The car was sent by a particular organisation several times and they couldn't figure out why it would not go straight.

All of a sudden, I'm almost at a point I wanted to be at almost two years ago because I spent a day with equipment to inspect and do the job myself.

Just need to get the tie rods adjusted to ensure I have an even turning circle both ways (now that's another story for another day).

Mate, that sounds like the sub-frame has been lowered or at least loosened off to do some work, like fitting a front anti-sway bar for instance, and then tightened back up slightly out of position, this can alter the camber and caster on both side of the car. This happened to me once and the guys at J@* told me the car had been in an accident when I took it in to get an alignment done and didn't know what the hell to do! They were trying to fix it by adjusting the tie-rods! (geniuses )

As I drove off I remember reading the signage out the front of their workshop..."Your alignment experts"
