What have you done to your mk4 (golf/bora) today?

Great questions here re:gbox but i can't help thinking that, regardless of mods (short shifter, shift bushings, etc) if the gbox rivet issue is going to rear its ugly head or not is entirely out of our control?

from memory isnt it around 4-5 rebuild + lsd for most cases in a mk4 box?

dave, i didn't have any upgraded bushes installed, and i did have the old ball type linkages. there was a bit of play in them but not much. when the gearbox was taken apart it was discovered that one of the three clips holding the spring was broken so it might have caused some where. i've upgraded the linkages to the new pin clip type and now there is no play at all. i'll install the 42DD stiffening kit a bit later, maybe with the new clutch. so in theory that could have caused some damage, i would recommend to everyone to stiffen those up, it is worth it. however, i'm not so sure about the short shift.

PS: the old ball type linkages were replaced with the new pin clip type in mid 2002.

Dyldo(??), at this time there is no solution on the issue, except well don't rush the gearbox. but i think i'll be right in saying that i'm the first one with this issue in Australia, so don't panic yet, maybe just my luck. i mean there is a 400hp supercharged bora in victoria, and his gearbox is fine.

pierre, yeah somewhere around there. but don't forget its a 4motion box.

Yep for sure the 02M gearbox doesn't like to be rushed on the changes. In fact I reckon if you try to rush it it feels awful anyway. Short shifter is only meant to cause issues on synchros from what I've read. That's only if you don't adjust your cables properly and/or rush your gear changes which can cause that lovely graunching noise (I think that's the right word).

You need to get a FIS display instead of the older MFD version I think. Much nicer with lots more potential for fun toys than our stock ones.
