  • ignition lock cylinder

I wanted to replace the ignition lock cylinder and switch today. Found some good videos and here. I used the old screw driver and hammer trick but couldn't undo the shear head bolts. Any suggestions? Do I just need to bang harder and persist?

Don’t give up, keep trying. You can use Dremel to cut the slot in the bolts.

Exactly what we used to do. Cut a slot and if it was a screw type bolt we could then use a flathead screwdriver to undo it.

That's what I did for my last one, cut slots then had a combo of hammer and screwdriver and trying to turn. I then replaced the shear bolts with standard ones for next time around. It was a little painful, but got there in the end.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
