Ok, I think I just realized something. So with coilovers, do they fit inside my standard srings, Or do I take my springs off, or do I need to get special springs as well.
$722 is good I am sure, but not as good a price as mk3pete.
Should've did a bit of research before you paid some hard-earned!
Coilovers are complete shock and coil spring suspension systems. They completely replace your current shocks and springs. They have been developed to work optimumly with each other. Most coilovers are developed to incorporate a range of adjustments such as damper and height which you cannot control with the standard items.
You guys have yourself a real bargain. I remember paying close to $700 just for my Koni Red shocks (not even the Yellows). But I guess the question on everyones' minds are if they do the job well - keep this thread updated even after you've fitted them on!

Havent paid hard earned yet, still doing some research, waiting on some prices from other sites around the globe. Looking at some Jamex, Not sure if they are popular in Australia. my car is used for travelling 32 km's per ay through peak hour traffic to work and back. So dont really think I need coilovers, but compared to the price I have to pay in Australia for just standard shocks I would rather spend that money on something in which I see as value for money. I have also noticed that not many of the fellow forum members have bought much from Australian outlets.
Remember to change your strut bearings and strut top rubbers with new items. For the fronts (bearing and rubber) cost me shy of $150 from a dealership. Would be best to do the rears as well so allow another $30 a side
Got them from Burwin VW in Ferntree Gully.
You could get them from the states or germany for cheaper, but obviously have to wait till they get to Australia. I didnt mind paying $150 odd as VW said they always carry them in stock
(mk3's and mk4's aparantly love to chew them out) and the fact I needed them on the day
I got my coils from German Car Performance (in Germany), got the coils + new heavy duty front rubber mounts for €555.45 (or about AU$950 landed). I also got a Neuspeed strut brace, poly bushes for the steering arms and poly mounts for the rear shock towers from Reinhaus and German Auto Parts respectively.
Suggestions, alternatives that fit, experiences, problems.
The finished product:
Almost two months on and all is still well. Took the car round Wakefield Park Racetrack and it was great. Driving round town has been fine although the coils had settled a little too far and I started bumping a few speed humps and scratch down on a few driveways. Still I did love the stance.
Had a couple of new tyres put on so got the coils wound up a little and driving round has been much improved although I think they wound them up a little more than I would like so I think I will split the difference and wind them down a few turns myself. (god I wish I had a hoist )
Long story short, I still need to get a drive in Steve's car with the V2's to see the difference, but for my money (and without a point of comparrison) I am damn happy with the setup I have.
If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
hawk wat size wheels you rollin and how wide are ya tyres mate
cause i just put my 16x8 donks on with out the car lowered ( you all know how high golfs sit stock so you get my drift here ) and the rear wheels still rubbed with 2 people sitting in the back when i went over a bump or when i hit the bottom of a hill mind you i was only driving normal
Thats a sweet stance Aaron, headlights look schmick too. Once I get my seats in I'll have to post some pics of my latest mods, i've been lazy with the updates
