  • Diesel Geek Shift No Longer in Production

After my B&M shifter failed, for the 3rd time... and after chatting with many forum users about the best way to go, I decided to purchase a Diesel Geek short shift... but when I went to order I discovered that it is no longer in production.

I gave Jim a buzz at Diesel Geek to see if production will start again.. Jim told me that sales of the shifter had dropped over the last quarter and the price of the shifter had increased considerably. However, he did say that stopping production was probably not a wise move, as inquiries about the shifter have increased dramatically since. He said while he is not promising anything at this stage, he will consider its recommencement, which will also depend on access to more shifters at reasonable prices...

Anyway, can I encourage other Mk3 owners who were considering getting one to flick an email to Jim about likely hood of its production, as Jim mentioned that the demand for the recommencement of the shifter will greatly impact on this occuring...

    So.. his email is:

    sales@dieselgeek.com

    Thanks
    Dan

A good question might be how many shifters are needed for a production run? If that number is low, we, or DieselGeek could organise a group buy or clearly note that a production run will be done on demand after XX shifter kits are ordered. Not the best of circumstances, but an option none the less.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I have asked Jim before about a group buy and the price in saving is considerably alot! Just one would cost close to $280 shipped included. A group buy would be something like $220 including shipping, worth it IMO!
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...

Definitely worth it! I'd buy one at this price (not yet but soon I'm sure) so if it's back up for a group buy soon I'll probably be in

Even $280 seems like a bargain. I put a short shifter in my FPV and that was $500 plus fitting (which required the gearbox to be dropped!!)

I spoke with Jim about numbers... to be cost effective for him, he usually does 50 at a time... I think it is due to the increase cost of the unmodified shifter that has put him off buying his next bulk order of 50, especially with the drop in orders over the last quarter....

But if he can see a small order, even from 10 from us... then it may be enough, combined with the other inquiries he has had to start another production...

Please consider sending him an email though to express your interest, or to start another production... will only take a few minutes

              Also....

Jim told me that he has perfected the install so it is done from up top... no dropping, or removing any of the exhaust or heat shields required, unlike the neurospeed shifter... Said it takes under 30 minutes for those who don't have any idea..

For those interested, there was a discussion on the "Diesel Geek No Longer in Production" at the following VW Vortex URL

By the way.. .has anyone got feedback on the short shift from eVW parts... link below

Thats exactly what I wanted to know. Like you have said if we get a few and Vortex gets a few and ... well you know what I mean.

It would be interesting to see something along the lines of a fixed price, long delivery time type order. Ie you order today, pay a deposit and when orders get to 50 they are shipped. Not ideal, but possible.

As for a group buy. I would be up for one in the very near future.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

My issue has been money, there's other things I need to do. But every time I get in the car it reminds me that I the gearbox really needs one.

Seriously, if people are considering the proposal of a group buy with Sir Diesel Geek - i will scrape the money together and get one. Thats a promise!

Great to read everyones interest in the Diesel Geek Short Shift for the Mk3... But PLEASE... send Jim at Diesel Geek an email inquiring about the recommencement of production of short shifts... This will be the most powerful way to see its production recommenced.

                        His email again sales@dieselgeek.com

Is it worth suggesting a petition? Just an idea; I'm thinking of 'Jim' here because if I were him I'd hate to get repetitive emails regarding the same thing!

I'd love one and I have asked Jim beofre about group buys and information about it, GB is the way, and I think that they are a excellent product the way Tim describes it can't lose

However due to myself diverting all money everywhere for my car and trip overseas money is becoming scarse
