Starting to think there's no way I'm getting these Simmons on the front. 25mm spacers brings them to 16x7 et0 and outer bolts still hit caliper a lot. Might be more do able on early vr with smaller brakes or something. Anyways I think they're going to be going in hopes of finding something else.

There are euro specialists but it seems they advertise for everything but vw. Mainly seem to be Mercedes and BMW. I'll probably take it to the same place my parents take their bora and mk5 tdi. They're happy enough with him but I like working on it and learning. Saving some $ on labour is also a bonus.
I've been googling symptoms etc. I have a spare maf that I'll put in tomorrow and check for splits in the air intake piping. Apart from that it seems the problem could be crank sensor, a screwed cat, fuel breather lines, relays, coil pack (although it looks fine to me) we will see I guess. I'll have another look tomorrow and if I can't see anything hopefully get it looked at sometime next week.

See your local dealership, tell them what car you have(chances are they haven't seen one in a long time), make friendly chitter chatter an then ask for a quote on how much you'll charge me for a scan and to try an find out what's wrong with my car.
Oh an AVOID all the young lads an look to speak to a older person, most preferably the service advisor/manager what ever the main man is called.
Tell them u just got the car as well, an that u knew it had this problem, but u thought it was most likely to be a sensor/coil pack as these things tent to happen after 15+ yrs.
This way they will see that your not just some young kid that doesn't know squat !
But try the scan yourself 1st.
Hope it just a sensor though.Garage:

Yeah good ideas, I'll most likely go to the euro specialist my parents use as it's a small but very professional workshop and the owner is the head mechanic so it's not the young lads touching my car.Last edited by anthony--t; 11-09-2012, 05:45 PM.
