  • New MK3 Dubber!

Gday guys, names James, but always referred to as Lorenz (last name)!

Have been reading this forum for a while, signed up not long ago and reading up on the great ol' Golfs we all love!

After having VeeDubs in the family since i was born (few passats, few golfs, polo etc) and driving around in my folks current MK4, i couldnt resist the temptation of having one myself and was set on a MK3 which i have just recently bought.

Im not new to the current car scene and im sadly now well known around Adelaide due to owning a very distinctive and rare 1986 Nissan HR31 Excel GT Skyline (pillarless hardtop, Japanese import)! Also SA moderator on the r31skylineclub forums and SA section club photographer

Well, heres my new ride which i am very very happy with and love to bits.
1997 MK3 Golf GL, completely stock standard (but not for long!)

Will be my new daily for a few years while im at uni and will get some love and attention slowly over time (I have a very bad modding bug in me!!)

Getting a few bits of paint touched up soon, along with possibly colour coding the spoiler, rear lower lip, skirts and front lip. Clear indicators, replace tail light (one is cracked) and headlight (as one is different to the other ), some new wheels (no cheap crappy aussie brand ones though!) and a nice stereo and a few other little touches here and there.

Look forward to meeting some other fellow Dubbers soon and reading up on more great info on this site

I hate the stock alloys wheels on the Mk3. I really wanted the steelies when I went to look at mine because I hate the alloys on this model.

The wheels on my polo look good though.

Yeah i cant stand the stock alloy wheels either, would have much preffered the steelies aswell TBH!

            Few quick questions:

How much am i looking at for a pair of VR6 taillights?
            How much for stock headlights?
Where's good in SA to source Dub parts?

                welcome. you a real virgin?

I can't help you much because I have never being to SA. would like to one day though, once I learn some german.

I've never really noticed much difference between the 4banger and vr6 tail lights. does the vr6 one have horizontal lines on them or something?

whats wrong with your headlights? get some dual lights, they look really nice on our cars. I use to have them, but one light broke and I couldn't find a replacement.

its probably more economic for you to source your parts outside of australia. unless SA has something going on the rest of the country don't know about.

I thought the VR6 tail lights were darker/tinted, but i could be wrong!

I seem to have 2 different headlights, so needa find a matching passengers headlight unless i decide to get the dual lights which i do quite like

I know its hard to find aftermarket dub parts in aus, was more refering to general second hand parts, or shops thats have golf bits n pieces.

Cheers for the help and welcome guys

hey mate , you have one vr6 dual chamber light on the rhs and a single chamber gl/cl light on the lhs, so you only need one of either to complete the set. vr6 tail lights are tinted and look alot darker next to a gl set. you can get the tail lights for around $120 and prob 100 for a headlight, just check to see if its broken or not. the plastic clips that adjust the reflector brake and the reflector flops around inside the light and the light wont point at the road properly.
                    enjoy the vw

Thanks for that mate. Answered most of my questions then!
Was only going to replace my drivers side tail light as its cracked, but thought i might aswell go a set of vr6 ones, they look so much better IMO!
Will most probably get a matching dual chamber head light in that case! Cheers for the heads up on what to watch out for

Hopefully be trial fitting a few sets of wheels next week, got a set of old skool Volks, Buddy Club P1s and few sets of genuine Watanabes, so will see what looks the best and what fits up nicely. Im all for good offsets, nothing worse than seeing wheels way inside the guards tucked away :-\

                        I like your thinking!

Post up pics of the old Volks! I love my wheels

You'll find a lot of those wheels won't fit the 4x100 Golf though
