That is quite true. I'll admit I probaby do often get just a little over the speed limit and may occasionally push the accelerator instead of the brake when a light turns yellow, probably have been lucky to have made it the 2 and a bit years I've been on the p-plates with no real driving offences. 3 months isnt a long time and the girlfriend and roommates are always happy enough to drive me around, so yeah. Will probably do that.

Plus the extra time gives you 3 months to get it all in tip-top condition for euro meets and happy laps.
Or you could always get the gf to drive you to euro meet

Haha trust me if I had the money I'd do the swap, but I want to do it right the first time and build an absolute beast out of the thing (considering I have it apart in pieces anyway) and am considering going to 3.0L, big cams, big super charger, everythingCould be a long time off though, am considering saving for a trip to europe or something instead while im still young

im trying to save for europe as well, and building a car is not the easiest thing cause you can never actual budget for it.
All these people have got me doubting whether 1 point for 1 year is the right decision

honestly if I want to build something really fast, I might not spend a cent on a beastly motor for this, and build a track spec e30 or something rwd, I love this car and all and might keep it as a daily driver for a long time, but could probably make something much faster for much less coin that would actually corner properly and not be a complete handful like a 500hp fwd golfAlthough if that were the case, then I'd still like to swap in a pretty mild NA VR6 to this one to give it a bit more of a bark and overtaking power. Basically, I have no idea what I want to do in that area yet, but its going to be a fair while before I have that sort of money.

Yeah i think im going to make something jap for the track and just have my vr as my nice car its the way to go! building something rwd thats jap is so dam cheap and easy to get big power compared to euro stuff but the Euro stuff is so much nicer and i love my VR

Thanks Pat.
Anyway, have been doing calculations for a while and measuring things up hundreds of times, but yesterday I decided to actually do a proper test fir of how the car will sit when I get the wheels finished, and tried a couple different sizes I was considering to get a real feel for how it would look.
How I set the wheels up to easily adjust the "size" of the lips:
I had to take the front brakes off completely to get the wheel on there, will need a 6mm spacer in the front to clear the brakes. I took this into consideration when setting the widths of the front wheel, so when I actually finish them this is where the edge of the lip will sit, the face will sit 6mm further out though. I borrowed a fender roller and gave all the gaurds a good massaging, happy with how the back have turned out although I did make a bit of a mess of the fronts, as you can see in the pics.
First sizes I tried where 15x9 (2.5in lips) and 15x10 (3.5in lips) as I really did want to run a 10, just because its very rarely done on the mk3's. I have no doubt I could run it if I wanted, but I think it pokes a little too far which will mean the car will sit much higher in the rear (currently it actually tucks a couple mm of the 15 inch wheels in the back, if I were to have 3.5cm of poke it would rest on the tyres stopping the car from sitting so low)
Next I tried 15x8.5 and 15x9.5. This is the size I plan on running nowI could go slightly wider in the front, but it wouldn't match the back.
Including the spacer in the front, final specs will be 15x8.5 +10 and 15x9.5 +3, going to run a LOT of stretch too, probably 194/45 all around. Ill swap on the stock wheels whenever I take it to the track so am not too concerned about it, im sure it'll get some hate though haha.
Pretty keen to get some tax back and hopefully finish thesesigpic

I already am at about -4.5 degrees camber in the back, so id need to be at about 6 to fit 10s which is a bit extreme, I think too much camber doesnt look that great.
Front is aired out in photos, back isnt fully. When I air the back out it sits lower than the lips of the wheels haha. The photos have it very roughly where I think it will sit with tyres on, although after looking at photos of 195/45/15s on 9.5s it may sit a bit lower
