  • Well I have not updated this thread in a while so I thought I might keep everyone up to date with whats going on!

I have slowed down the process of the build up due to Christmas (stupid presents)

Firstly I require new mounts, engine mounts that is, so looks like I will be going for the VF engineering ones as they look pretty good, but I am opened to options if everyone has any?

I am still up in arms about getting wheels aswell as I don't know what I want yet I can't make my mind up if I want keskin KT1 classics with powdercoated blck centres or these:

The same as what I was thinking for the keskins in a 16x7.5 fronts and 16x9 rears hmmm powdercoated white/ black still haven't decided on that!

I have also worked out what will be done with the manifold being provided by Tim, it will get smoothed throughout the inside and port matched then powdercoated black again with SCHRICK in red lettering! I have also found a good powdercoated that does some nice work however they said that they will charge minimum $90 for it, is this a good price?

To accompany this I will be purchasing a Samco hose kit Red to tie in nicely I think. Got my inspiration from a tuner website where they had a engine bay pic of a golf with red samco hose kits, black schrick and nice shiney snail! :]

I am also considering taking off the arch flares as you really can't get wide wheels with them! I would love to keep them but from what I have seen you can't really keep them, with fender rolling aswell. So thats another discussion with that is going to happen as there will need to be abit of body work trying to get rid of the indents that it has left when taking the arch flares off.

This will be getting started next year some time so basically I really am going to just purchase all of the items and go from there, wait till I have everything and them from them all in I reckon :]

Anyways just thought I would keep all you folks updated with project dub lol.

    Cheers Steve

*Edit - Also just to throw the thread into a bit of confusion (yeah BS) I have been reading this website all morning, one that will give me mechanic a big smile:]

            • Welcome too the wheel dilema. Good luck with your hunt. I know I'm no where near purchasing a set any more than I was 6 months ago. I just can't decide.

                • IMO I like the Diamond Racing steelies more. Quite a few US cars run them and you'll find lots more pics if you search for "diamond racing" on the Vortex.

If you were to go for new Keskin KT1s, I'd rather hunt down a set of multi-piece OZ Futuras (the KT1 is a replica design of it). It'll be hard, but I have found a set on eBay before... though it's not easy acquiring a set! I offered a guy good money (ahead of his reserve) and he couldn't do it as someone else offered him more!

                  • A person's car is an expression of their own individualism.

Even though you may have seen something before, in a magazine, on a website and it may look great, just keep in mind it was never your own idea. You are better off, in my opinion, looking at wheels out of the VW tuning concept and looking simply at the wheels themselves in the context of your own car and how it would be percieved by yourself firstly and then by others.

If you end up even buying 10' drift wheels that look good, buy them! Don't think about the other tuner cars since firstly, its not your car, secondly you can't see the car in the flesh and chances are they have a different set on by now.

So yeah, I've probably confused you even more but I can see here that your going for a very specific look and trying to create a unique car. So, I believe you should engage in this process and stop looking at VW tuners and at more wheels catalogues to keep things in perspective.

At least for the time being...

                    • I like to the vortex for inspiration cause, no matter how much you hate there forums are sh17 or puckd up, there rides are amazing!!! The fact those guys do most of there work by themselves is fantastic it gets me inspired thats for sure!

I am looking for individualism however I am taking parts from different cars and trying to mold them all into mine One day I hope to strip it down again and then restart the whole process, completely bare and back to glory but that will be a full restoration and 15 years away lol.

Hmm thats interesting Raymond, What I was planning on doing was buying MK4 spare steelies and getting them widened to the desire that I want would this work?

Anyway the Diamond ones that you suggested Ray:

Nice wheel IMO but they would cost a fair bit for getting them sent to Australia wouldn't they?

                      • With 10" rears and massive tyres allround i feel i would be slowing the car down, if i put that much money into the engine then i would want it to be as fast as possible, stock size rolling OD of wheels and low resistence. ive had cars on the ground and they where fun (beetle with less then 50mm clearence to the sump, 3 splines on the back ) but you couldnt push them. if you do show+go the car seems to become a compromise between both and never as good as it could be.
But then again with all the cops its lost the fun of having a fast car. they have new rules coming in now or very soon. 9 months goal for a burnout yeah thats going to make everone safe. what about the ppl that bash guys or glass them and get off on a good b bond ??? anyway enough of my rant now.
                        cheers brenton

                        • Interesting to think about that Brenton cheers for that, however Iam not going for Fastest VW or anything I'll leave that to Seb who is building a crazy vr6T drag car with full fibre glass front I am really hoping for a mixture something that is clean, nice and pasteful and also something that will pick up and go when I feel like giving the road hell

i would prob run 16x7.5 with sticky 215s or abit bigger if your smoking them 2 easy. dont forget the money you spend on wheels could be going into a supercharger

Just took a look at the Diamond racing website, but for some reason all there wheels look really cheap, something like $100 can someone confirm this maybe it was just me to drunk or something been sick all week lol.

I may have to email them I think

                              • yeah i always thought they where just cheap steel wheels , i think most of them are not hub centric etc, just wide steelies for cheap. you could prob get it done here for they same price prob less with the shipping. just find some 16" steelies and get them widened
                                cheers brenton
