  • looking for a new water pump on ECS, there isnt any VW brand one, or a brand I recognise.
These are the options, all metal impeller:
    Brand: Geba - Corporate Logo ES#:2526475 Mfg#: 021121004X $44.95
    Brand: Graf - Corporate Logo ES#:2495 Mfg#: 021121004X $54.95
    Brand: Hepu - Corporate Logo ES#:1831921 Mfg#: 021121004X $71.09

Anyone have any suggestions on what to get? or whole else manufactures the metal ones?

        • You wouldn't think so, but there's even a problem with the metal water pumps.
My pump got changed about 3 or 4 years ago, it gave up about a few months ago. From what I observed it looks like, the 2 ports you have on the pump, clog up with oil and cause the seals or bearings or what ever is inside, to go shiit.
You will notice the engine gets hot quicker than usual, and will run at a fairly higher temp too.
So what's the whole point of all that mumbo jumbo
Well it breaks your belt. Out of the 6 or 7 ribs your belt has, 1 rib will rip out & fly around in your engine bay at what ever rpm your engine is doing, until it wraps around something and snaps off (in my case it wrapped around the power steering pump).
The rib that flys around has the potential to damage a fair few things, it nearly cut my wiring harness in half, wore out my tensioner a fair bit & now my power steering pump is quite noisy :|

So I bought HEPU, did a quick search on that company, they are a German company, where as the other 2 are Italian & (carny remember the other 1).
Yeh it's slightly more expensive, but in my case you get what you pay for ! I'd rather pay the $25 bucks more for a slightly better piece of mind.

          • interesting about the higher temps... mine runs hotter then normal, but doesnt climb any higher.
waterpump was replaced on this 50,000km ago, but not sure if thats the cause of the issue or what it was replaced with.

exactly, there is next to no difference in price. im happy to pay more for quality, just have to work out what is the better and if they are all ok.
HEPU sounds good being german. still want to know why ECS dont list any VW part numbered ones, is there such a thing?

I have no idea, but just a guess. The vw ones are plastic only? Might be why they don't list one

                        • Some progress thanks to Matt d, Matt g, woody, Mitch, Timmy b, Benny, thestu and sneaky. Driveway looked good with 7 dubs at once.
Few suprises like driveshafts held in with only 1 tight bolt and two lose bolts, subframe bolts rusted in, 1 cam skipped a tooth and the other cam skipped two.
So far Vr was stripped and is now fitted with 2lt beam and 2lt subframe to make it moveable, engine is degreased (soooo much mess) and appart ready for new head, chains, gaskets etc.
Vr beam is in the Vento.
