was thinking about performance the other day and boring the heads came into mind...kinda new to dubs and their limits and was wondering if anyone knew if a 2.8L vr6 could be bored to maybe a 3L??? is this possible??

you bore the block to increase displacement, not the head. But yeah, you can bore the vr6 block to as big as like 3.1L I believe, you then need bigger pistions and such, and unless you have a really heavily built engine the gains arent really worth it from what I've read. Porting the head and getting bigger valves and such to make it flow nicely gets some nice gains on a vr though supposedly, especially when combined with cams and exhaust and all thatsigpic

well to sum it up for you, a port n polish will get you around 13-16hp...like boring the block, in terms of "worth it", the power/$$$ isnt grreat at all unless you want to squeeze every last hp out of the n/a motor. i guess with everything done e.g. porting, boring, cam n exhaust etc you'll find a good response in power but yeah. ive come to the conclusion im gonna leave it and just go ahead with putting my peloquin in...now THATS a bang for your buck mod!!! hahaOriginally posted by The_Hawk View PostGot some links for us to have a look at??

Ive had larger pistons fitted and the actually opening up of the bores took a really long time!! No-one really has the jigs here to machine out a 15 degree V6.

in that thread linked above, when the guy talks about the 2.9 manifold and he talks about the problem with the 6th cylinder closest to the driver and slight affect on the 5th with flow and restriction...is that concerning the euro 2.9 or our 2.8's?CURRENT: '76 MK1 Golf 2dr (1.8 8V, twin webers.. soon to be 16v

its talking about the 2.9 i think, as the stock 2.8 manifolds dont have the "kink" that is then there when you cut them up. im 90% through making my own 2.9 clone, just need it welded back up now, just been too lazy to call around and find someone to do it.
