60' time was 2.2 and i was running Falken semi slicks

ok, i'll be the first to ask for time slips please . . . totally awsome if you did because that gives a lot of us guys who have made more modifications hope for some wicked 1/4mile times . . . though it seems far fetched

Wet weight on the MK1 I have is only 850KG when I weigh bridged it.

      That's about half.

Why is yours so heavy mik? My cabrio when it was weighed was only 900kg, the GTI that is.

Science's VR6 ran 15.2 I think... He had time slips up on here but they have been deleted!

Don't know? A full tank of fuel would change you by about 30KG, spare wheel another 8-10KG, those aftermarket seats are more substantial than the original ones - and possibly I had a few 'random' items in there like the fire extinguisher, some tools and my laptop bag that could have added 10KG or so?

There is 50KG right there and bare weight from original specs is 810KG.

            Sorry to hijack!

Aftermarket Seats, bigger Radiator, Bigger Wheels than original and 16v engine and 5 speed all contribute.

850 is still hell light though.

Here is a pic and one of the timeslips of the day. It was done at the 2005 VW Nationals.

Can't find the one with the 2.2 60 foot time that ended up running 14.1

hahah I remember that! There was video floating around as well wasnt there? Best burnout ever!
I remember u explaining the technique involved as well. From memory it was lots of revs, 2nd gear and a side step off the clutch!

Tim its was a fun day indeed!

The technique is about 5500-6000 rpm, handbrake and no mercy for the clutch... if it was still in the water box you could flat change to third for extra smoke... just don't roll onto the sticky part because you will destroy a clutch/gearbox/driveshafts.

There is a bit of an art to getting them down the strip quickly... it involves little mechanical sympathy and a good launch with the right amount of slip and grip. Sticky tyres are good for a few 10th's as is weight reduction, its all free horsepower.
