  • Keep the socket square and they'll be sweet, Mal. You won't lose any strength in the bolts with the amount you needed to take off. Don't stress.

    • Bolts should be machined down this week on the adapters.
Pulled the brakes that I got from Matt apart today and painted them Silver. Have a caliper rebuild kit on its way to fix up the rubber/seals etc and ensure no problems.
I have given myself a month to get these ******* wheels on, it's giving me the ****s now haha. Nearly there boys!

      • Adapters/bolts have been machined. All good there.
Caliper rebuild kit and new Bendix pads for the Mk4 GTI brakes have been ordered.
Tyres will be here on monday and mounted midweek. Looking good.

For sale soon will be EBC Greenstuff pads for the front of an early VR6 if anyone is interested, PM me.

Also need a new sump and engine mounts. Never stops!

              • Friday Raymond....

Question, which loctite thread locker did you use on your adapters?

                • I've used the red stuff in the past, did the job fine on some 25mm bolt on spacers which were on the car for 2 years

                  • I used blue. Thinking back, does that do anything? Since they're rated at ~40 ft lbs, and the bolts are torqued to 90 ft lbs....

                    • Fair call, thanks lads. Ill have a look at both, I'm not 100% sure it's needed but have read/heard to use it. May as well be safer

                      • PS. I will have pictures of some sort in about an hour rubber has been mounted. Pretty sure it's a little more extreme than I wanted, but it's all been experimenting.

Need to go pick the wheels up fro ma mate's place. Wish me luck!!!!

                        • Dare I say, drop into Supercheap and have a look at the Permatex (I think) line of thread lockers.
Last shift I had, I noticed there was quite a few (5 or more) sepcific types of thread lock for certain jobs.

                          • If you use loctite.. Use nothing over the 400's. 200's would even be fine. Otherwise you'll never get the stuff apart.
