It something coughs a bit too. Which has me head ringing that it might be the fuel regulator.

Think Oz ones had a cat so 02 sensor could be out to lunch.

edit Mik all the oz ones are late digi. My UK manual 8v digi used to do 50mpg at a steady 100 clicks!

Ill check the vacuum hose tomorrow.

I changed the fuel regulator just then. I gave it a squirt aswell on the hwy. Seems to go well to 7.000rpm.

I didn't want to push more..

Also, it only coughs twice a mouth or so and only a little bit.

And, on cold starts, when i put it in D, it turns off???

            Thanks for help guys.

Back to this topic. 7.6 around town is like magic for 2.0 how can you achieve that ??

After spending big money to tune the k-jet I still get 10 - 11 around town. It was like a Contenential Bentley over 25L/100km

              How's other Mk2'er fuel consumption figures ??

I've winged before but I Ill do it again
Im getting around 13 litres/100km give or take a few around town with my very nice driving and changing up before 2250rpm, in my 2.0Ltr MK2 GTI.
But I have a suspect O2 sensor..... aswell as a Bentley manual that was due to arrive a while ago to tell me how to fix my car!

We plan on looking and checking things such as timing, AFM, O2 sensor, plugs, both intake and exhaust manifold and a few other sensor/switches when this manual arrives.

Possibly silly question, but is yours a 16 valve?
And whats the rev range around when your tranny goes up a gear?

I found this site very helpful to gaining an idea of the Digifant set up and how to find/fix problems.

Theres alot, but read it all, its worth it.

I've only done one full tank since I got the car combination city/hwy so don't have much of an average to go by, but only got 12.2 on that one.

Oz spec with cams and exhaust so wasn't expecting stock figures, but hoping it won't always stay this thirsty!

my audi when I had it, (1.8Kjet) would get around 11 ish around town, and maybe a bit up to 12's if you're really getting stuck into it. on the highway it got into the 7's though.

the mk 2 does 7-8's on the highway and 9-10's around town (according to the MFA)

I have a bog standard Aussie spec 1.8 Digi with a gearbox that does 3000 rpm at 100 ks. Average fuel consumption is 6.7 litres/100k but most of my driving is on country roads.

If I sit on 95 kph I can get it down to 6.3. Best I've ever done is 6.1 but I don't know how I did it.

A full tank of fuel gets me over 740 k's.

                        Cheers

base on all these replies, for all 1.8 engine, digifant 8.5 - 10, k-jet 10 - 12 (around town), so I guess my Mk2 setup is ok now.
I just wander how velly_16v_cab get 7.6 around town in his 2.0 bottom end

i drive like a girl, mainly i have the wife and boy in the car and driving around Geelong there isnt too much traffic.
I do think the car maybe running lean, i will be getting it tuned once i get my chip fitted and mk3 exhaust manifold.

Maybe also i have driven mk2's now for over 10 years, maybe its just my driving

A 2litre conversion should use less fuel. It's all that extra torque.

Plant your foot and you use lots of fuel but drive gently and it will reward you with really good fuel figures.

                              Cheers
