  • Back in a MK1!!!

    G'day gents,

Been scarce on here for a while now, but thought it's time to get back on it.

Most of you know this one to be in Victoria but it sneaked it's way to the west side about 5 months back. Tommie's (ex) MK1 GTI!! Have to be honest tho... had my eye on it since he bought it a few years back. He looked really well after it so kudos to him. So here's a few pics from when I took ownership, hope you like.

The drive to from Geelong to Melbourne

    At the Depot

    Finally in WA!!

    First day at home

    5 months later...

Must say it had a few electrical issues(no horn, window washers, reverse lights, cluster issues, grounding issues, etc),exhaust rattle and a slight miss on WOT in 4/5th and even the wheel specs were a bit odd. Don't worry the RS's will be back on in the near future and will be rebuild with some wider lips.

As you can see so far front and rear lights bar the indicators (looking for OEM ones), full stainless 2.5" magnaflow exhaust with cat from the downpipe back(replacing the 3" that was on it), some exterior bits, bit of a engine bay cleanup, porsche wheels( Actually sits a lot better than the RS's as there's absolutely no rubbing at all) and most of the electrical issues are sorted. Basically just the tacho thats the headache now electrically. Changed all the ignition parts on the engine incl. sensors, vacuum hoses and breather hoses and its now running sweet, don't know what the issue was as I replaced everything at once.

Sorry for the crappy pics, i'll updated with better ones next time i'm home.

    Cheers
    Leigh

        Back in a MK1!!!

From all the paperwork i have, its had 3 owners in Aus. The Guy that built it in Tas, another in sydney and then Tommie that took it from SA to VIC. Cheers Paul!! Still alot to do on it. Another big headache was finding wheels that clears the big brakes in front, found some cheap ones so the sticky Toyo's is going on that for the pits.

        Cheers

Whatup Fellas!! Been slowly working away at getting it ready for pits and finally got it passed a few weeks back!!

                  Virgin Spec on inspection day.

Since then added some VDO gauges...

Still alot more to be done but for now just happy to take it out for a cruise whenever i want.

                  Cheers

Wow, so it will be a daily? Would have thought club permit > full reg.

Either way, looking great! So jealous

Wont be a daily, more weekend cruiser. Club permit in WA is way different than Vic.

                      Thanks man! Cheers

Sorry mate works been hectic the past few months and with the winter months i dont drive it much. Done a few things when I get a break here n there...

Added a Kamei rear spoiler( had to buy 2 to get the clips, seller didnt want to split)

Added some engine covers( not sure if its staying tho)

                          Also bought this....

She still looks the same tho

Broke the passenger side inner cv a few weeks back, so changed the cv's to the bigger 100mm outers to match the inners. Now there's some type of whirring noise coming from the front. Changed wheel bearings but still there. Anybody got any ideas of what it could be? I'm thinking of changing back to the 90mm outers and see if it goes away.

                          Cheers

Check that the outer cv is not rubbing inside the upright/bearing housing as on some there is minimal clearance for 100 mm cv's.
