So paul (sports racer) graciously gave me a spare speedo cable he had lying around for some $$, safe to say almost everything in the golf works, bar the thermo switch (waiting at repco for me, just need money)
i am trying to source a steering boss, have a momo wheel in the garage just waiting to be mounted.
am also trying to find a pair of seat rails for a cool litte project i want to do
just in the process of cleaning everything up again. bought some hammertone paint awhile back and started redoing everything in that so it will hopefully spruce up the bay a bit more again, hopefully to what it looked like when i rebuilt it.
But no really, I like to look distinguished when I step out of the car. People are like, "wonder what he does for living."
I just reply, "your daughter, sir." - some dude on stanceworks
I had fixed half the broken crap but that just meant it was still halfway inoperable

refinished the dash because last time i did we did it a very bad way and royally screwed up.. nothing as pretty as others but it does the job. just needs a coast of fabric dye to look good again.
redid the boot in carpet, got tired of seeing some ****ty wood that was poorly cut. Just need to reroute those wires and it will look a bit cleaner till i can figure out what to do with the basstube.
jury rigged an excel swaybar to fit the golf and started to clean up how the engine bay looks. wrinkle coat paint is a god send because no prep is really needed. Still want to pull apart pretty much everything and give it a good clean. Car runs great aswell, a few hiccups when low on fuel but that will be sorted when i get the electric fuel pump on and working.
and finally got my head wrapped around what i want to do and installed the wheels that i got off paul (still no clue what they are, look like formula mesh but they arent.) going to refinish them sometime this month when i can be bothered (never). Also painting the two fenders and the roof aswell, just need to source an extra fender. Let my girlfriend doodle on one and dont really want to paint over it.
once i get more seats for the rails i'll have a better interior pic. Also Would anyone know where to get a steering boss that will fit a mk1 for a momo wheel?

how would one go about fixing this, quite deep and on all 4 lips..
i wouldnt mind the best route to go with sanding the lips... quite alot of pits and all that.

Are these Simmons? If so, do they clear the front brake carriers?
Best way to get rid of gutter rash and pitting is to mount them up on the car (no tyres or valve stems) and hold some course sandpaper or even a file up to the outer lip. Once it's all level, continue with finer and finer grits as usual
You left off the bit about running the car in 1st gear to make the wheel spin so all you have to do is hold the file/sandpaper.
Make sure the car is stable and the rear wheels are chocked so it can't move anywhere.
Oh yes. My mistake. Preferably don't do it with the mk1 (if it is anything like my one, it'll overheat in no time). When I did my wheels, I used my girlfriend's Suzuki Swift to mount up the wheels (looked tough as). Barely used any fuel and the fan kicked on briefly every 20 minutes or so.
Additionally, since your car has open headers that end right under the drivers seat, it won't be too kind on your ears after quite some time knelt beside it. Just a thought.
Hey guys, any tips on removing powder coating? I'm thinking about getting the faces media blasted but want to see if there's any other way first
