Had a few days off from uni(teachers marking up drawings, GRRR), and didn't work all day so I had an arvo to do a little work on the golf, been a while since i did anything.
Started off by grabbing a wire wheelie thing, and went at the little spot of rust inside the car and cleaned up some other crap in the foot well too.
    sorry no progress pics

Then i started to clean out the rain tray, as it was full of 35 year old leaves.

got it pretty clean, but now i need to grab some dry ice after uni tomorrow to get rid of the Sound deadening, hopefully no holes, fingers crossed,

So thats what i did today, nothing special, just small progress. also decided I won't be able to paint the car from bare metal unfortunately, but I'm gonna rub it back, primer and properly paint then clear it, hopefully get it looking good

    Cheers

Where and what are the wheels?

            What are the seats... Subaru?

Keep up the good work maybe catch you an Adelaide soon.

            Hey mate
Sorry I never answered your question. But the wheels are stock mk3 steelies that I cleaned up.
And the seats are just el cheapo bucket seats. But I decided I'm not gonna go down that road so if anyone is interested. Let me know.

been a LOOONG time since i uploaded anything, been heaps busy and slowly picking away at it, spent the better part of 3 weeks sorting out the raintray, had a little bit of rust, worse than i originally thought, so that took a while, and i was a bit slack, didnt really take many pics along the way, and its been hella hot in Radelaide. heres some images, going to try get the car rubbed down and any issues sorted before i go away, going to be ages till i update again, as im going away.

                heres some pics:

primered raintray, after all the work was done,

                  some more updating:
Was away for 4 weeks then back to work, so in the evenings this is what i have done so far.

cleaned up a spare door i got as the rear right has some rust issues and is badly dented

took the hatch off and found this

                  cleaned it up

cleaned some more, than to be safe, rust converted for all those tiny bits i couldnt get

and primed once that was ready, still needs a little work to competely smooth out

cleaned up the rear end and hit any exposed metal with primer after cleaning up the imperfections and rusty bits

now its time to get started on the front.
Can anyone please tell me, am i allowed to take these plates off and re-rivet them once the vehicle is painted?? are there any legal ramifications if i do so???

and some of the worst rust i have come across so far

                  thats it for now

seeing as your in SA, i can't see why not.
As for VIC... well who knows, its probably illegal

just take them off and pop them back on after paint.

                    great work too!!

Time for an update, been a long time since i touched the mk1, probably due to the lack of time(final year masters )

So i finally got to fixing up the drivers side, which had a fair amount of rust.

and i started on around the front window which wasn't too bad, had some surface rust where the window surround meets the bonnet

and thats about it, and unfortunately im back at uni next week, so probably wont touch it for a while again

Been HEAPS busy with uni, but have had a break for the last week or so, and i have done a little bit of work to the mk1 between actual paid work and still doing some assignments.
                          Heres what I've done:

the front panel was pretty wonky, but not too bad, so i worked on that

Eventually i got it all flat and straight, worth the effort

Then i decided I'm going to work on the front quarter panels(or whatever they are called)

once i thought i was done, i sprayed the panel with some primer, to preotect the metal, and all these dimples from soda blasting came up , more work

So, I decided to go over the panels and skim coat them to fill the dimples and then re-paint, and this has seems to come up well, but haven't got any pics of that yet.

Thats it for now, Another 8 weeks and this will go full steam, can't wait

Well, thought I should add to this. It has been a fair while.

So since uni finished in November, after all was wrapped up, I was keen but time killed all my plans before the new year and didn't do much else to the car till after new year. Since then i have finished that front panel off and got that ready to go in primer, and started on the other side.

To say this one was mungered up is an understatement, looks like it had a accident on the leading edge and the panel was pushed in, not much but 2-3mm. So after bogging and sanding that back 300 times, or at least it felt like it, its getting close, hoping to finish that off on Sunday.

In between that and work and trying to lose weight for my sisters wedding, I also ripped the dash out(cracked to hell) and I think I'm going to have a go at re-skining it. Before i can do that it needed to be re-glued in places, straightened out and all the cracks/missing foam sorted.

So I stripped the vinyl skin off the dash.

Then I cut out the gaps from where the sun had eaten and damaged the foam.

Glued the air channel back to the underside of the dash.

Used moisture + wooden boards to try and straighten the whole thing out, worked out ok.

Then filled the gaps with expanding foam, and finally spent hours shaving that foam down to keep the lines of the dash.

Pretty happy with where I'm at. Now just gotta find seats then I can buy material to match the dash to the seats. Hopefully it works. Can't be worse than what it was. Haha
