  • 79 GLD Project

    Hey guys,

I thought since I have introduced myself it was properly time to indroduce my cars. Both are 1979 GLD's mk1, one is just a rolling shell and the other is nearly a full car. This car is my first car and first restoration, so please excuse me and my inexperienceness.

My plans for this car is to get it looking good and running. We have started stripping the paint off to figure out which body would be best, then we will start the real thing.

So for the next few months I'm going to be poor. On to the photos:

Excuse the wheels on the car,

The rims I was going to use, again please excuse the mess:

    Sorry about all the pictures.

looks like a good start, with plenty of options and parts atleast!

don't be sorry for posting too many pics, and don't be afraid about being inexperienced! we all were at one stage, and we're happy to help! There's lots of things that have been covered already, but if you can't find and answer, there's no harm in asking!

Thanks guys! Interior is beautiful isn't it? And, I'm pretty sure I am the only person in town with not one but two golfs, so..parts? No problem!

I will just keep updating this thread with pictures and all sorts, so keep your eyes open! Thanks again.

What wheels are those!? Always surprised to see a set I haven't seen before. They look good.

          Good luck with the project/s!

On the topic of having questions to ask... Use the 'advanced' search function, the normal search never works for me and really pisses me off!!!

Dragway Draglite. I would have to agree when you say they look good. Thanks for the advice with the search function!

                    Update ~

We have started stripping the car, checking for rust and body damage. Just going through the car to check what it needs done, so far the silver car is going to be restored. Both of the rear quarter guards have rust, so does the front windscreen pan. The hatch has a fair bit of rust around where the seals were, but so far all is good.

Front of the car, pulled the front bumber off and also got the dash out.

Got the left front guard off.

                    The mess.

Quick question, has anyone heard of or used flocking on there dashs?

                      Another Update.

I stripped the hatch, front left guard, rear left guard and rear left door. I'm impressed by how little rust there is, just a few flicks here and there but nothing bad.

You can see a bit of the rust in this picture:

                        Good work!

Its also and added bonus to have a parts car aswell.

Do you have a colour in mind?

It is nice to have a parts car, so far the only thing we will need from the parts car is a left door.

I haven't quite decided on colours yet, I was thinking going biege or yellow or maybe even baby blue.
