Did some stuff today. The front is quite rusty and had a rather annoying dent underneath so it had to go, thankgodness for part cars. Dad got his angry face on and did some more angry grinder action. I also have a windsheld panel coming from the UK, he is actually pretty easy to deal with. Home page Eurowagens

    Before:

It is like a rust festival in there

    After:

    The 'new' front.

Great build hopefully I'll be able to do the same with my GLD build.

Sorry to thread hijack but is there anymore info on that matte black car?

It is about time I did an update.

I finally got my windsheild panel. It has been to about 4 different countries, 3 states in the US, and is shaped the other way but other then that it is right.

I also fell in love with a different set of wheels, and well I ended up buying them. $51 for 5 wheels, $125 for freight....bargain.

Today I cleaned the engine bay ready for sand blasting. We figured that it would get at the rust better if we did it that way.

I haven't really gotten very far since the last time I updated, but I still have some crappy mobile phone pictures.

Before the slight wash and wheels.

          CLEAN!

          Just because...

          Oh...and the new wheels.

Then Dad and his fat a$$ sat on it.

This is the colour I was thinking about painting it. Dad painted his old escort this colour, I think the story was he couldn't decide on orange or yellow. These photos don't really show how nice it is but it is all I got.

Hoping we will start some angry welding action soon, getting the rust holes fixed and putting the front panel and windsheild panel back on. Time helps a lot! Cheers.

            I had a MK1 Escort too!
Those wheels are nice, should've wrapped them in much tighter tires though.

Only 3 out of the 5 wheels have tires and they were the tires that came with the wheels. Thanks though!

                      Did some golfing today...

The Mk1 got sent to be sand blasted today. We just got the engine bay and the front panel done as the rust was pretty bad, and it was a lot easier.

                      Clean metal.

I figured I should tell a bit more about the Mk3.
The auto had problems, hence the reason why it was for sale. We have seem to fix it, but who knows. I had plans to use the engine from the Mk3 in the Mk1 and use the 4 speed manual. After cleaning her out, sort of fixing her up, and driving her around a bit, I'm starting to have second thoughts about wrecking the poor thing. I think I might be a little attached, and insane.
3 golfs. I have some problems.

The MK3 diesel's are a bit rare in Australia, top work finding one!

You could transplant the diesel engine into the MK1 and then put a little 2.0L petrol into the MK3 and continue using it
You'd then have a nice comfy daily and a nice project MK1.

                        Just a thought

If you do pop the TDI into the mk 1 (which would be awesome, and go like stink!) be sure to use a 5 speed, long ratio box. otherwise it'll be revving it's nut off on the freeway, and on boost as well. which means everyone will think you're trying to race them! (and could get rather jerky)

I was thinking about that the other day, but then misplaced the thought. Thanks for that!

I'm excited to see what you do with this project because this is pretty much my exact build.
(although I was going to go mk4/5 tdi)
