          • The bonnet safety catch might have grabbed the top of your radiator.

I removed the hook from my white car because of this. I have other bonnet restraints so it wasn't a problem.

You might need to bend up a coathanger or someting to pull the hook back enough to get the bonnet free again.

            • hey all, haven't posted an update in while. but the car is up and running - have ironed out a few bugs over the past couple of weeks which included;

              - upgraded to carter 4070 fuel pump (the old facet pump couldn't keep up with the high revving KR)
              - upgraded the wiring on the radiator fan which is now running off a high current relay, the Barina Bosch fan is drawing much more current than the old/standard mk1 fan

still fiddling with tuning and timing, will need to take it to the carby shop to get the carbs set up 100% (waiting on those tax return funds ha!) - other than that in the process of organising a short ratio 020 and upgrading cams (over the coming coming weeks).

photo below of how it currently looks - thought it was sitting nicely in the sun the other day - cheers!

sounds really good yeah! a little too loud for the local suburbs though, car hear it from 2 blocks away.

bit of an update - installed a low pressure fuel regulator today, this should help with flooding in traffic now. next stop is the carby shop for a tune, hoping to see some good results out of this - will post up a video after

                  cheers

                  • still working away at the old girl and slowly getting ready for vw supersprints in may.

purchased a new steering rack from camden gti as well as new poly bushes for the control arms, rear trail arm, steering rack (as per photo) and front engine mount. still waiting on my adjustable strut top mounts to arrive and next pay check i will be ordering the ball joint extender and tie rod flip kit from unix performance - want to have this handing well @ wakefield this year to match the 16v conversion.

                        • another update on the MK1. Finally found some time to progress on with a few things over the long weekend!

                          new uni joint boot

new steering rack, boots and tie rod ends all measured and assembled.

poly control arm bushes all installed

unix performance ball joint extenders and tie rop flip kit. i am in the process of organised a new set to be sent to be from unix. the once i recieved haven't been machined properly and aren't safe to install as one is extremely tight and the other is extremely loose. not only this, but one of the wholes for the bolt is not square so the bolt won't slide through when on the ball joint. i've tried them on both left and right ball joints and the problem is the same. very poor customer service and response from unix performance - not very satisfied at all.

new poly front cone engine mount

new timing belt on the 16v

all in all success over the weekend. new strut mounts to be installed this week - more photos to come!

                          cheers.

                          • Recently picked up these spherical thrust bearings from KMAC suspension (thanks to Arno for suggesting I install these with the new adjustable strut top mounts). They should really help with steering efficiency and sharpness by taking the load off the strut top bearing.

Also good to see some stuff still being hand made in Australia.

Fingers crossed i can get the car back on the road this weekend!

Silly question but what's your fuel economy like with the twins?
