  • So it now sounds epic?

    Comment

    • Epic is one of the descriptions that has been used!

Over run when you shift at the limiter, bit raspy, probably a tad less discreet now but extremely stealth - M5 tunnel was enjoyable on way home.

      Sound clips to come later.

          • love it when you get a phone call like

"yo mik, this back box is way to big, do you feel attached to your spare wheel well"
            "no not really"
"cause im gonna take to it with the grinder"

commitment or madness you decide, i think a little of each.

all jokes aside the set up really worked well, no drone at idle and low revs and then screaming rally spec splatter up the rev range.

loved as mik test drove it for the first time and was hitting it towards the dead end in the soaking wet, i watched in fear as he topped out 3rd with just enough time to get on the achors and slide towards a locked gate of the nearby factory/estate. looked hairy from where i was standing.

            • I think you're right Alex, it's never going to be concourse so why not make it unique.

As for braking distances, I think it is soon time to address the stopping capability!!

Here is the sound from cold start, such a bad weather day I did not get it warm.

I wish, am doing more and more stuff. And obviously enjoy it. Bring on the next projects I say, I'm up to anything.Oh and on a side note a 2 1/2" system on a mk1 is a major squeeze , and a super challenge getting it over the trailing arm. Clearance was/is down to 5mm ish at spots, having said this the hole system doesn't knock at all, bar the tail pipe which we are going to sort with some panel work , and closing up of the gaping hole from the twin abortion.

                    • Fiddled with hangers, mounts and rear panel so I've no knocking now.

There is an exhaust leak in the bay from the joint where the 2 sections of header connect so I'll arrange to take that off and get it welded to replace the sleeve.

Took some MKV GTI owners for a spin on Thursday night, they quite enjoyed it.

                      • It sounds phenomenal Mick. Thanks for the ride! Hauls a$$ too.

Deep at idle and wonderfully raspy as it goes up through the gears. I was surprised how non obtrusive it was when sitting in the cabin. It's there, but it doesn't drone at all! It sounds like a race car, but like we were saying, more condensed, or compressed. Same character though. 100% goodness. You've got to be happy with that.

Time for another dyno run me thinks.

How dare you lump me into the group of "MKV GTI" owner. I'm offended!

The car's spot on now dude. Man I wish my 8v was like that.

                            • I was off to visit Brenton earlier today to get some bits, filled up the car near home and 5 minutes down the road the car starts playing up. Massive miss in every gear all though the rev range. I nursed it home and cleaned the plugs but to no avail, still was not happy. Starting with the basics I pulled the plugs out afain to confirm they were sooty and proceeded to check spark.

Luckily I started at the coil. I removed it pulled the terminals off and brushed them to remove some corrosion and she is running bang on again! Very satisfying but digit is so tempremental to current fluctuations and earths it is not funny... Probably runs better than before!
