Mate Provent is much more efficient, the 42DD is nice, but at a guess removes 50-70% oil blow-by as opposed to the Provent at over 90% ( as reported by Mann ). The whole point is to minimise inlet crud build up, and the amount of oil ash ending up in the DPF, thus extending the lifespan as long as possible.

You can look up the DPF ash loads with Vag Com under the engine - advanced measurements or some such, you can no longer easily look up the DPF like the MKV under the engine measuring blocks section. If you need a cable let me know, I can post you one for a loaner, I have two which I loan out to tune customers.

Sports DPF, well that's been years in the planning, and now with Dieselgate, the legality of such a product is even less likely. Still I'm keeping the Yeti stock for testing, and not saying anything till it actually works....

Whatever happens, fitting any aftermarket DPF is going to require a very specific OBD flash tune, and it's going to trigger TD1 for sure, plus one look under the car at the dump section, and well lets just say the exhaust will look completely different.

I'm certainly going to give it a crack.

Ok, but of an update. I've returned the Yeti ECU to stock in preparation for the dieselgate recall, and I've opened it up to take a full K-Tag reading of the stock ECU program. Once I get the new software "fix" applied, I will take another read, and see if the various programmers RDT use can work out exactly what the "fix" is.

From there I'll be deviating from stock on the ECU in a big way, but for now I decided to try out the new Stage 3 DSG tune from RDT. I put one on a tuned GTI during the week and the test drive was very impressive, asked if they can do the same on a TDI. Turns out they could do a lot, and are doing some test files to see if the can actually activate launch control!

Initial test drive and the Yeti feels like it has a piggyback box back on it down low - it doesnlt keep going into the top end like a piggyback box does with the otherwise stock ECU tune, but wow, when RDT say they can raise the torque limitation in the DSG, they sure can. Car is a LOT peppier from a standing start, the actual shifts are super fast and much firmer, and the car has amazing mid throttle pickup now. They have set my upshifts in D mode at 3000rpm for now, as the stock tune runs out of power about 2600rpm, yet to try sport.

Best of all the lag from a standing start is almost zero, wer are going to work on that as that's been my biggest bugbear with the DSG.

OK Time to do some more tinkering, and I'm going for bang for buck. Here's the first mod, the intake.

Ford BA GT Pod $30 off Gumtree
        Holley Dry Filter $55
        Silicon Adaptor $26.

Sound gain - not bad, had hoped for more, need to seal it up to the over radiator inlet. Power gain, typically minimal, but it was really all about giving me space in the engine bay, and the feel good of a direct intake path. Off to make a suitable bracket now.

EDIT: Oddly enough it has gotten louder after a few drives, not quite sure why, but it is much more like what I expected. Just needs proper mounting and the XR8 front snorkle.

Step 2. The rear muffler. Bought one of these HP-2 mufflers from Flowmaster, they look interesting. I'll put it in place of the rear muff, will make stuff all sound difference till I do some trickery with the DPF, and I'm getting over waiting for the dieselgate recall, so probably time to void that warranty.

Wow I forgot just how heavy the rear muffler is, that alone is reason enough to replace it. I bought the shortest 2.25" Flowmaster I could, and will just run one active tip, and one fake. Perhaps even swap to one big oval tip. Anway just need a front mandrel bend for the job, and a bit of 12mm tube to rig up the hangers. I also stuck my finger in the other end of the pipe, and got zero soot or dirt out, the inner pipe is clean as a whistle at 70,000kms.

I've read that the exit from the DPF is 'clean room' standard air with regard to particulates.

I'm really enjoying where this thread is going.
In regards to noise levels, I gutted the DPF in my Mk2 Octavia vRS TDI (left the DPF-casing and downpipe standard) and had a 3" straight pipe from the downpipe to the rear. Not loud at all!
The standard exhaust manifold & turbo, at least on the CEGA, do nearly all of the sound deadening.

The darkside manifold and GT2260VK on the other hand, when the vanes are open...

....which is indeed the plan, but I'm keeping a DPF of sorts, not really into being one of those cars you hate to follow.

My mandrel bend pipe showed up today for the exhaust fabrication, so it's MIG time.

So did my GT / XR8 snorkle to finish off the intake. It's suprisingly big. Pic below is just an example, I don't have this side thingo going on.

Yes mate can't tell you how good it feels to just be a regular Joe again, and to have some coin to buy silly bits to put on my girlie 4x4. My medical agency is kicking goals, so I've canned Carformance, as that whole scene is rapidly becomming complex / pricewars, and it served it's purpose.

Must say the Yeti, just on a Shift Plus and a DSG tune ( both transmission and wish map orientated ) is certainly a peppy beast, with the stock ECU I matched a Chrysler 300C from the lights, suprised the heck out of me. Lots of ceiling left, my missus tells me it's plenty quick enough already. Back in the kitchen honey.

Hey greg good to see ya swinging spanners.

why are you bothering to put another muffler in place of the rear box at all? I honestly don't think it'll make any difference.

the only difference i could notcie on my golf without the rear box was more choo choo.

...because the DPF is set to change dramatically mate. I doubt the sports DPF idea will ever become a saleable / EPA approved device, but on my own car, well it's back to the old ways. I'm also planning a much better flowing manifold and turbo, it will absolutely be louder.

Can confirm, the factory manifold/turbo is where *all* the sound deadening is, at least on the CEGA.
My car is *very* loud at high RPM when the vanes are open - can finally say "at full noise" and mean it!
Very interested to see/hear the Yeti when all of this is up and running.

Cool, be interested to hear how the lag is compared to stock, I'm sure it hammers mid to top, but getting off the lights is what worries me, don't want to do the loser flyby. You are lucky you started with the better 170 head.

Mysticality's ride is not laggy at all. Its quite impressive.

it is however 'teenager in a gemini' loud.

But his exhaust system has been pretty much engineered to be loud. the twin 3" straight pipe pretty much amplifies the noise I reckon.
