Anyway, I had an engineer explain to me in December about the legality thing when discussing engineer plates for different mods.

Basically if an air filter is exposed in the confines of the engine bay, its a fire risk - fuel vapour, back fires all mean a fire risk - hence the law. Obviously its a blanket law, you can get individual approval to comply to satisfy an inspecting engineer.

So according to the law, it must be fully enclosed from the engine bay (in their eyes) so hiding it under a cover won't suffice. I asked about some of our stage 3 stuff (goes out of the engine bay & sits under the headlight) & that's OK - any vapour would be in the wheel well (same place as the fuel tank vent).

Not such a combustion issue with diesel, but that's more of the background of the law.
Thanks for the info. How long until you can supply them and what price?

...and why are they so special for the TDI? Has a yellow and green deere on it ?

I agree with Guy, that's what's been explained to me by transport up here.

Received my APR 2.0 TDI Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake System today from Quattro Motors WA which was supplied by Harding Perfomance ,APR Australia. Great service from both Harding Performance and Quattro Motors.

Took me about 45 mins to install, looks good...very good. Very well made and fits perfectly and the engine bay looks so much cleaner(less plastic) I wasn't expecting too much in the way of vehicle improvement but I was wrong you can certainly hear the turbocharger spool and the turbo lag is pretty much gone. Nice to hear the turbo.

Acceleration is faster but not sure if I've taken a hit on the fuel economy side will find out tomorrow when I take a drive down to Serpentine Falls (depends how I drive). Will provide more feedback after tomorrows drive.

I would recommend it, ended up getting it from APR Australia due to problems with buying from APR abroad. Certainly a quality product.

Just need the Bluefin software upgrade and the car will nearly be as powerful as the GTD.

Exactly what I was thinking. Looks like a good spot on the right for that Provent kit.

Pretty cool, but far too late to market.

I've bought a MKV TDI, fitted a ModShack, driven it 3.5 years and now have sold it for nearly 4 months before this was here - otherwise I'd be on to one too!

Yep, it makes fitting a catch can real easy, and it seems to be a great excuse to use on the missus.

Not cheap, $540 (delivery was included to my local APR rep) but then you've got to remember a decent pod filter kit from K&N would set you back $200+. And that would still only be drawing hot air from the engine bay unlike the APR system which draws in the cold air and then stays relatively cold due to the carbon fibre keeping the temp down.

Had a drive on Australia Day and to be honest I wasn't driving slow and I still averaged 5.4l/100km
The car also sounds so much better; my teenage son was on the driveway when I came home from work yesterday and he said you can hardly tell its a diesel now. Theres definitely a lot less turbo lag on take off and it just seems to get there so much faster!

                      I'm very pleased...

Yeah not cheap but then I wasn't expecting it to be. Wonder if it ends up an cheaper importing it from APR.

Sounds like it is cheaper to import it yourself -

I did try to import if from America. I actually placed a order with APR America but it was cancelled the following day by APR America!
I ended up emailing about 2 other suppliers in America and pretty much got the same reply from them all. Replies below:....

Reply from GMP Performance America " Hello Paul and thanks for the inquiry. Unfortunately, we cannot ship into another distributors territory and with you being in Australia, there is already an established importer "

Reply from APR America " Unfortunately, we are unable to sell directly to customers in Australia. We have strict policies with our international dealers about importing products into countries with APR facilities in their territories"

The only other way to import it from America would be to set up a US postal address, but I could imagine that would be a lot of hassle, and if it arrived damaged what come back would you have.
UPS delivery from America for 5Kg Parcel UPS (Worldwide Expedited) for $146.72 USD which would probably bring the price difference down to less than $50 is it worth the hassle to buy from America?

But to be honest the service I received from APR Australia was excellent.

A few more pictures, it certainly looks a beast in the engine bay. The quality and build is outstanding.

Lucky I have an account with a mail forwarder in the US

Set it up about a year ago to buy a snowboard, more recently used it for my wheels. Haven't had any problems, all arrived in perfect condition. As long as you send it with insurance (Fedex includes insurance AFAIK) you should be fine.

pom829, I really dig your pics. It truly looks an awesome pice of kit! Go APR!

However, I wonder if APR would ever consider making a Black Plastic version rather than a Carbon Fibre version.

For me personally, I would prefer it to look more OEM with black plastic rather than Carbon Fibre look.
Plus I would assume that it might cost less to manufacture, thus cheaper to purchase!

Plus it would give me more room for a Provent 200!!!

                                Just my 2 cents...
