APR Transverse 2.0 TDI Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake System

Anyone got one of these yet? Interested to hear what they are like and whether it would fit in a Mk5 GT TDi.

Interesting htat the inlet is still quite small.
Looks similar to the BMC intake that the GT TDI guys were using.

Actually its completely different to the BMC intake because it used the oem air inlet opening at the front of the leading hood edge for Ram Air. I've heard that this is actually the highest pressure zone in the car and something the VW designed very well. Most people that go with the BMC intake and route the airintake to another area actually find it looses performance. I'm not really looking for an increase in power with this thing anyway because it would be so minor but I'd love to increase the induction noise and the fact that I can wash and re-use the filter would be bonus.

HIGHLY recommended, this is basically what I spent ages building with my Modshack, and it's not anywhere near as cool looking. Direct bolt on, and at USA prices and the current discount, an absolute bargain. In the market again for a full pod, this would be it. Does indeed draw from the highest pressure area, and will be quite throatier induction wise.

Ahh but will it free up a bit of room in the engine bay so one can fit a Provent?

Absolutely! Would make fitting a breeze in comparison to the stock airbox, so is that enought of an excuse for you?

Have been waiting a while for APR to produce one for the TDI, ordered it last night from APR America as not available in Australia yet. Still reckon I saved even with the postage, cost me $400 Australian(including delivery) Delivery wasn't cheap as it weighs nearly 4.5Kg.

ARP Australia sells the TSI version for $599(excluding delivery) and I can't see the TDI one being any cheaper.

Will provide real feedback when I've installed it.

I for one am interested at the difference GTI to TDI - would be adaptor diameter and length at best...can't see any difference necessary in the actual POD....mabey mount points?

Tempting. Wonder what real world difference it would make.

Whats the legality of pod filters? A mate has always said your are only allowed a pod filter or a blow off valve.. Obviously I dont have a blow off valve

So long as the pod filter is enclosed it is legal.
You can have both modifications however i think the bov has to be of the type that does not vent to atmosphere (i.e. plumbed back type???)

I think technically any modification done to a car that is considered illegal unless its ADR compliant. Hell I think changing the stereo in the car is illegal but the question is would anyone bother giving you a fine for it. If you've got a big shiny pod hanging out the bumper thats obvious then you certainly increase your chances of getting caught and fined but in the case of the APR unit mentioned here the pod is inside the case and is out of view. Very factory looking. I doubt any cop would bother defecting you for it. BTW you can't fit an blow off valve on a diesel.

We have our first shipment of TDI intakes, started test fitting this morning - they are pretty

Anyway, I had an engineer explain to me in December about the legality thing when discussing engineer plates for different mods.

Basically if an air filter is exposed in the confines of the engine bay, its a fire risk - fuel vapour, back fires all mean a fire risk - hence the law. Obviously its a blanket law, you can get individual approval to comply to satisfy an inspecting engineer.

So according to the law, it must be fully enclosed from the engine bay (in their eyes) so hiding it under a cover won't suffice. I asked about some of our stage 3 stuff (goes out of the engine bay & sits under the headlight) & that's OK - any vapour would be in the wheel well (same place as the fuel tank vent).

Not such a combustion issue with diesel, but that's more of the background of the law.
