Hmmm though it makes you wonder what would happen if someone did that, considering I switched to the vic plates today too.
Sureeee. Just catch public transport and meet outside mine at 9AM everyday. I'll drive you somewhat close to wherever you work.

Yeaaaah. I somehow don't think that's going to work for me.

Just leave my abandoned plate alone

        Thanks
I just switched over and they didn't take my plates. They handed me the Vic ones and said seeya. I drove home, tookoff the existing plates and put them on my kids electric car

Hmm interesting... I was advised if they are standard issue, and you no longer have the registration, they will reissue the plate.
I wasn't that attached to the one remaining plate anyway lol

I've been tossing up between custom plates and euro custom, and I think I'm going for the normal custom.

I'm thinking getting both slimline, or is it better (esp for the front) to get the bigger ones (I know it won't fit like the Euro ones)

Removal of the front Licence plate mount

Just wondering if anyone has removed the large ugly mount behind the licence front licence plate ? and then attached the plate directly to the bumper ?

I got one of these... fairly expensive but well worth the money imo. The guy running it is a top bloke, and knows his stuff back to front.

(goto additional images for a nice pic) - I got the plate cover on top of that, which looks ok, but probably not required

Removal was easy enough. From memory remove plate. Push the middle of the plastic rivets out, then pull the rivets out. You might lose the middle of the rivet in the bumper somewhere, I lost 1 out of 2.

Something to consider is there was some plastic rubbed off and transferred to the bumper from the mount on mine. And it only had a few hundred k's on it. Buffed off easy enough. But would have been visble after i put the replacement plate on if it had been scratched. I guess it could be replaced if it was damaged underneath if you could get replacement rivets..

The plate i'm fairly sure could screw directly into the bumper without issue. But i preferred the look of that lakin. I think a few guys are running them here. I can take some pictures if you want.

+1 for the Lakin holder. I have had one on my Golf R for about 2 years now and still looks fantastic.

Just bought another one a month ago or so for my GTI and it looks great too - much nicer than the OEM plastic horrible thing.

Hi Guys, a big wrap to Larkin plates, received my Classic Euro plates and plate holder today.
Removed the original plate holder and installed the custom holder.
