  • VWG Oz still considering the Scirocco

But focusing on the launch of the Golf GTI and GTD first...

Good... like many, this is my preferred next car although the all wheel drive Golf R might have to do if this doesn't work out. By the time it gets here (if at all), it will be almost obsolete...

You mean like the Golf GTI Pirelli ?

IIRC they had all been been made nearly 9 months before they first started to actually hand them over to paying customers, and they are still selling them now, some months after the Golf Mk 6 came onto the Oz market. They must have been sitting in a holding yard for ages while VWA got their act together and finally started to sell them.

Just read the Drive article about it and VWA are worried about it taking
sales from the GTI, so they think they might just import the more expensive R model,
so people cant afford it and have to buy the GTI.
        Great thinking VWA

VWA have been blowing hot and cold on the Scirocco since it was a gleam in the designer's eye. In England Sciroccos are cheaper than the equivalent Golf. You wait. Next year it will be "We might bring it out after the Golf R" then it will be "The Mk VII Golf is coming out." Meanwhile, by NOT ruling it out, VWA stops RAWS workshops from importing Sciroccos.

It would be a hard choice between the Scirroco and the MkVI R for me.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

AWD wins out every time in my opinion.

I would tend to agree but the scirocco just oozes visual appeal, while the R20 just looks like a golf VI with centred exhaust and biger air intakes.

Is it true that you can buy the Scirocco in NZ? If so could you import one?

                    Yes it is.

Not unless you live there for a minimum of 12 months owning the car.

One thing has always gotten to me when thinking about their excuse for not bringing the 'rocco here...

If it's going to affect the sales of the golf, so what?? it's a VW, if they sell in place of the GTI they're still selling...

Surely the demand for these is huge. If they were worried about it selling as a cheaper alternative then put the price up lol...just give us the damn rocco!

I'd say we'll get them one way or another.
