Stumbled across a neglected Up! at Pickles and could not not try and save it .... (probably less than 2000 left running in Aus)

For a while it will do duty as a daily for an overseas visitor, before making a decision on what to do with it.

Apart from a shockingly badly installed set of cheap coil-overs , the other issues were:

- bad paint on the nose (bonnet, both fenders from a previous repair)
- damaged front bumper
- hole in the sump (due to badly installed suspension that was so low a pebble on the road probably did the damage)

Fixed, awaiting paint ... but driving properly.

- used blue bumper installed
- some polish did wonders to the faded paint
- OEM suspension installed
- new sump fitted

How cool are the little up!'s. There is a modified one who lives just near my niece's place and it does look cool lowered on some rims. Would be so cool to have the up! GTI in Aust or have access to do some sort of engine conversion into them. One of these with 140kw would be a riot.

They are fantastic to drive. Like a go-kart really, just need some more power as you say. We have had the red one for 5 years now and I still loving driving it often. With decent coil-overs and some really sticky tyres, it grips unbelievably well. Near our house is a s corner (2 x 90 degree bends with enough straights before and after to make it really fun). We rank cars these days by how well they go through those corners .... current rankings are:

1. Up! (fully flat @ 78km/h)
2. Golf R (7.5) (fairly flat @ 67km/h)
3 Polo GTI (6C) (fairly flat @ 65km/h)
4. T-Roc R (bit wobbly @ 63km/h)
5. Amarok TSI (leaning quite a bit @ 60km/h) really good performance tyres helps a lot here

More power has always been on the cards, have had both an add-on turbo (from a 1.0TSI) and a supercharger test fitted. Just need to find time to get stuck in and finish it off. But it very often does duty when 1 of the others in the family.

Ideally a full transplant from an AW 70-TSI Polo 5spd manual will go in. Just need to find a stat write-off in QLD as a donor. BTW 70TSI/85TSI will tune to 120kw with no/little mods.

I remember driving one back in 2011-ish when I was considering different cars. Definitely felt underpowered, but probably more of a me problem than a car problem
