Golf MK6 - Low Line Reverse Camera not working

Hi All

I know this topic has been covered many many many times, butno matter how many posts I read I still can’t find the solution to my issue..
So I installed a “low line” camera to my 2013 GolfComfortline but I cannot get it to show anything on the screen. When I put thecar in reverse the radio unit does all the right things and changes to the reversecamera screen, but nothing shows up.
Things I’ve tried so far:
- Going over all the wiring and installation notesand can’t find anything wrong
- I read some posts about the reverse signal beingpulsed by the BCM so I’ve put a replay on the camera as suggested
- Reversed all my steps in VCDS and started fromscratch
- I contacted the seller from Ebay who I got thereverse camera from and they said it’s probably because my unit is a RNS-MID,not a RNS-510. They said the camera will also work with the RNS-MID unit butthey don’t know how to modify the programming
I guess it has something to do with programming as I get 2faults when I do a scan. 1 is the “37-Navigation -- Status: Malfunction 0010” andthe other is “56-Radio -- Status: Malfunction 0010”. It keeps complaining thatthere is a fault in the “Control Module for Back-Up Camera”, which doesn’t makesense as I installed a low line camera (without backup module). I have been tothe module installation list but that module is not ticked..

Try this:
In the RNS, turn OFF bit 6 in byte 3 for RVC backup camera low.
Save the coding.
Reboot the RNS.
Go back into coding and turn the bit for RVC backup camera low back ON.
Save coding.
reboot RNS.
Test.

Thanks for the reply mate, unfortunately this did not work either.
I ran a scan after I disabled bit 6 in byte 3 and it still faults with "02873 - Control Module for Back-Up Camera (J772)" even though it's technically not being requested. Is that right? Is it possible that programming has changed elsewhere when I enabled bit 6 byte 3 the first time, and that's why just changing byte 3 does nothing to fix the "02873 - Control Module for Back-Up Camera (J772)" fault?

Try the same for the canbus gateway installation list.
Enable backup camera 6c.
Turn car off and on.
Untick backup camera.
Turn car off and on.

If it still doesn't fix it you have a cabling problem with your lowline camera.

Hi Kamold,

After what seemed to be about 900 times of ticking, in-ticking, rebooting and waiting... I finally have no 6c module errors. The bad news is I still have a black screen when I put it in reverse. I ripped the RNS unit back out and triple checked all the wiring and it all looks good, so I guess the camera is stuffed then?. I might try one of the RGB to composite converters on Ebay, just so I can run a normal composite camera (and also make it easier to change if it ever packs it in). Have you ever tried one of these converters or heard anything bad about them?

Hi All,

For all those interested, I finally figured out what was wrong with my camera setup.
Whilst removing the unit to prepare for trying a RGB composite converter (courtesy of Kamold - thanks for the offer!), I noticed that one of the pins on the 26 pin connector on the back of the stereo unit was bent almost flat. Once I bent this pin back (very very slowly and carefully) the camera worked straight away. It must have always been bent and I just didn't notice!.
