Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Rns-510

I have had my Tiguan for nearly 6 months now but am having difficulties in coming to grips with the RNS-510 unit. My car is a late 2010 build and first registered in 2011. I am aware that the unit has a number of variants as is evidenced by the copy of the instruction manual I obtained as a download off the internet.
The unit is easy enough to use in basic form but I am looking to see if there are some changes I could make. For example, I had a Tom Tom in a previous vehicle and that would emit a warning when approaching a speed camera. Camera data has been imported into my POIs. I thought this may be possible as a voice warning is issued when approaching 1 klm prior to a toll points. The manual I have does not mention any of this. I would really appreciate any help on this and even if I could be pointed in the direction of more information. I have attached 2 pics sowing the system information. Thanks in advance. Ray

There is no audible alert system in the rns510 unfortunately. There is the ability to add a custom poi database and forum member Aussietig has built a comprehensive database which you can buy for $10 which includes safety cameras as well as thousands of others. Check the electronics section.

Ray, I'm afraid there is no way to get audible camera or speed warnings from the RNS-510, or at least no way that I have found after nearly two years of ownership. The RNS-510 is nowhere near as capable as your TomTom, but it does have some distinct advantages in its integration with the car.

Thanks. I'll check it out. One way to avoid any hassle I suppose is to stay within the speed limit. But then we all kow that is not as easy as it sounds!!
