I am still not convinced they are level... something tells me it is not quit right. While driving, it bugs the hell out of me. It;s like an itch that wouldn't go away.

I will give it a few days for my eyes to settle in. otherwise I will consider distroy one of them.

holein1.. I will probably try bunnings.. I have use "putty" while painting our living room, I assume they are similar stuff pretty expensive from what I remember ~$15 for a palm sized tub. Also, the 'fine filler" you a re talking about does it have hardener or simply air dry ? (Just for a guide)

mixes up exactly the same as normal automotive filler ie. filler mixed with a hardner and comes in similar packaging ie. a tin

perhaps try somewhere like autobarn, supercrap auto etc, im sure that they would have something like that which wont break the bank

however as mentioned before, its not a neccessity...

well if you are not convinced they are level easy peasy, measure from the top of the a pillar to the tweeter of its the same on both sides it level if not fix accordingly,

now one thing you have to remember is the mk3 dask is almost 25-35 mm lower on the left hand side of the car to that of the right hand side. so this will in turn also fool you into thinking that the tweeters are not level.

Unless you are car was not level when you did the intially check.

did you try the tweeters up there at all before mounting them?

I am pretty impressed with you door pods. Nice work and very inspirational.

I too would question why you would you a spirit level and string to make the pods level... garage floors are usually prettly level, but your car is harder to get level... especially once you get in!
You should have just marked the position of tweeter on one side then mirror image the position on the other side measuring from the top.

Can I ask why you did not make the pod for the tweeter on the inside covers of Door Wing Mirrors? Would have been easier and less obtrusive - especially for the passenger.

It's all about the sound, Gigitt. When I was with Louis doing my system we opted for the most simple way out for tweeters, just to mount them on the car....in the OEM dash. It sounds very cut, as though there's not one stage...but with Louis' position it would be very central and create a better staging in the car

So you are telling me 2in makes a difference?

yeah, it does make a fair difference. It's got a lot to do with the direction they're facing also.

So you are telling me that there is a huge difference between these 2 position. Facing the same way to the listener...

I agree that relocating the tweeters out of the OEM location (as they point at the windscreen) is a good Idea.

Yes there would be a huge difference if he mounted the Tweeters with the mid bass drivers on the door sill down low... but I think you would not percieve the difference between wing mirror locations I have edited in the pic above.

yes in some cases it does, it has alot to do with the type of tweeter (ie. silk dome, metalic dome etc) as well as the power levels and brands of the gear you have

the frequencies that come from a tweeter (ie. higher) are much more suceptible to positioning making them sound different compared to lower frequencies. as has been suggested, even the smallest of changes can make a significant difference. for example you shouldnt be able to detect what side of your boot yor sub is sitting on as lower frequencies are less directional (assuming that its set up correctly)...

for your average joe, this sort of business may seem a waste of time/unnecessary, but comments such as these usually come from those who have hardly any idea of car audio, or audio in general for that matter. its only untill you sit in a car that has been setup properly with some QUALITY equipment that you can understand how small changes such as this can make a significant difference.

may seem odd but the installation of your equipment can be make a world of difference... cheaper gear can be made to sound better than higher end brands, thanks to a well thought out and installed system...

                    food for thought

                    cheers, dan

It is quite true, 2 inch can cause a significant change in staging. In fact a small pivot on axis is all it take to make a it sound just perfect. I found my tweeter sound "best" on A pillar, it is not necessory true with different car different brands. As holein1 mentioned, the different build of the tweeter will produce effect.

If I was to mount it on the Mirror angle, I would have incorportated into the pods instead. Biggest constraint would be feeding another wire through the door gromet, I am already pushing the limit feeding 2 wires through, englarging the hole to feed extra wire for the tweeter would probably crumble the gromet. That would be one risk I am not willing to take.

I don't think I have enough knowledge to explain why incorporating tweeter with the set of speakers in the door pod is ideal. I can only say " It sounds really nice and natural" There is a whole lot of physics involved reguarding sound travel and time alignment. I read about it on other forums, half the time I don;t understand other times people talk pure junk.

Mounting the tweeter on A pillar is actually harder than I thought. I have already started all over twice, I not even close to satisfaction. Getting it to sound right vs the look right factor is not easy.

Try it out and test it yourself. Blue tack your tweeter, close your eyes and listen to your favourite track carefully. You may be convinced...

pretty damn impressive if you ask me...

the reason it looks higher on one side would be because of the shape of the dash. it will look funny unless you measure it up from the dash. It looks sweet on the outside (as in the same height) so that should probably be your guide.

looks like I have alot of work to catch up to all you guys here... finances are slowing me down at the moment

I finially got hold of some Speaker cloth, more specifically "acoustically transparent fabric". They were way less than I have ever expected too, only $12.95 / meter X 1.5

Also got some black vinyl for $14.50/ meter x 1.5m, anyone worked with vinyl ?? Tips perhaps?
