V7 Maps for Australia

To clarify: it's not an fm station. It uses the fm band to send data. Compatible and licensed receivers can use that to display warnings or use the data to make route calculation decisions. The files I asked for in the initial post will tell us if this is enabled or not.

Google and VAG are already the best of friends in Europe and partially in Aus (Audi only atm).

I know that nobody gets there VW/Skoda maps from here but the this is the link on the Whereis site that you are supposed to be able to buy the map updates from (for $300+ apparently):

Have always found that those maps are not suitable for most of our vehicles anyway.

They are more for generic units using Whereis maps bare and ours have a VW front end customized for our units.

Correct link here and they are only for up to 2008 models according to the compatibility page and Bosch units

Just wondering if they'll still try to be selling those disks when V7 finally does arrive... As far as V7 goes hopefully they've got the new alphanumeric routes NSW now has incorporated... Also, maybe (just maybe) working traffic updates too (although the second one I doubt)...

They are there just zoom out a bit I have mine at 25M and few are there but zoom it out and most appear.

I would rather spoken instruction said the name of the street you are turning into rather than just saying "Turn here" 25m before the actual corner

Doesn't matter how far in zoom in or out, there are no street names. I have the voice turned off so I rather see which street us which.

Put it in 2 D and zoom out and see. Download the version I posted above as there was a bad ISO but that is the good one.

Might make a difference You may also need V5 as usually you cant reinstall the same version.

There are street names but I find it randomly chooses which ones to display based on the zoom setting and view (2D/3D)

I've now got street names but it's very odd how they came about. Since this is straying slightly off topic, I'll continue the thread in a post I made earlier.

Uses the Traffic Message Channel data broadcast by Intelimatics over fm in capital cities. It's encrypted so needs a licensed key to decrypt. Ie vwa have to pay for it.

Looking in the 'I've ordered/received my new Mk7 Golf' thread there is one poster who claims he has been able to get his traffic updates working. He says that it is neither hardware nor firmware but 'coding'... Is this feasible?
