Hi, can someone please comment on CD playback quality compared to the original factory head unit and if this unit has at least 1 pair of RCA outputs so an amp such as a subwoofer can be utilised? I find my current factory unit's lack of expandablity to be quite annoying so I am looking at a replacement. Not sure whether to go down the path of the avc9000 though. It is tempting though. That is if they're still available.
The cd and ipod playback is excellent, likely though that this is because of the extra RMS.
I can also confirm that the unit has one pair of RCA outputs.
Brown connector made no difference for me. White or brown individually seemed ok in the garage but once moving it is rubbish.
However I picked up a powered Y adapter today and it has solved the problem. The adapter that comes with the kit is not needed - this one has 2 fakra inputs, one labelled white (so it matters which way it’s connected) and the standard output with a signal amplifier inline that connects to the blue "auto ant" wire on the back of AVR. Unit purchased from Autobarn, it’s a new listed product for VW and the guys (unfortunately I’m known by name down there) claim that the factory head unit has an internal signal amplifier. Definitely fixed it for me.
Agree with the iGO statement – it’s great, seems to calculate routes a lot better too.
Can you advise the brand and/or part number of that powered Y adaptor.
Thanks in advance.
PS. iGO is the way to go, just got to get it a bit more 'stable'...

You will need 2 parts. Neither of them are powered by the way.
Aerpro AP339 - this coverts a single male DIN antenna plug into 2 x female DIN sockets so you can plug in 2 x DIN antennas.
Stinger BKBAA22 - this converts the Fakra antenna connector into a standard DIN type so you can plug it into the Aerpro adapter as above. This is the same as the adapter that comes with the AVC9000.
GTIMK5 kindly posted a picture of these parts in another thread. Here is that pic again.

Guys anyone using iGo maps....whats your thoughts feedback.
I currently use Garmin GPS units and love it, I am not a fan of tomtom menu's and i just dont like route 66.
One of the sellers offers iGo maps...they look ok but i have had no experience with them, hence this post
I prefer iGo to TomTom. I was/am a big TomTom fan also.
The main thing that iGo does better is that its easier to type addresses into. As you start typing the each letter, the system grey's out the next letter that cant follow the fist letter you have typed. This means you get fewer input errors. TomTom doesnt do this and its easier to make mistakes.
Apart from that, they both do the same sort of job.

Thanks Paul for that. Forgot to mention I have a 06 Polo GTi which has the lamest radio for expansion so RCA outs are very much a drawcard to this unit for me.
In regards to the antenna situation with the adapters, does the TV antenna also integrate into it as well? Most have said that the TV reception is poor and I am wondering whether this can be improved or not?

If you measure your aerial socket on the AVC9000 you'll notice that it has 12V coming out. I'm thinking that you don't need the active cables that are available because there is an antenna amp located somewhere else in the car - you just need a head unit that can supply power to it.

As I stated in earlier post – I have done it with ONE part - Autobarn now have a single part it is Double fakra to single DIN Antenna with a powered signal booster in line - especially for the new VW range.
Sorry should have taken a pic and to be honest I was so relieved to have it sorted all packaging has been thrown so I don’t have a part number... Autobarn at Capalaba (07) 3245 7556 had to make a call to their supplier as it’s not in the catalogue yet – Manger (Craig) sorted it for me. Brand is Connects2 but I can't see it on their website - it's new.
I decided to do some investigating to see where the antenna was in my Jetta. Here is a picture of it.
You can see the white connector on the left and brown on the right. They seem to be going into the same circuit board which also has an earth wire coming out of it which indicates its powered some how.
There is no roof top antenna with the Jetta so Im not sure why they bothered with a diversity antenna set up when both antennas are in the same spot
Anyway, the Y adaptors I bought solved my FM issues but AM doesnt seem to work. I don't listen to AM so its not a problem for me.

I also installed my digital TV Tuner today. Its an old unit that I removed from my old car. It does a good job and has dual diversity antennas to help improve reception.
Here is a picture showing the Hopman Cup live on ABC
The tuner box is installed under the front passenger seat. I have one antenna on the front windscreen and one on the rear under the headlining so its hidden from view. I am trying to improve reception still so if anyone has experience with in car TV, speak up

Today I installed a Parrot 3200LS bluetooth carkit in conjunction with my AVC9000. I bought a Parrot adaptor lead so no splicing was required. All I needed to do extra was to connect the accessory wire seperately as the stock wiring loom doesnt have this. I ended up tapping into the AVC harness's accessory wire.
The Parrot works perfectly with the AVC. When you make a call or a call comes in, it mutes the stereo and the conversation goes through you car speakers. When you hang up, the music starts again.
I mounted the Parrot screen to the right of the AVC just under the air con vents. This was the best location as I can easily view the screen while driving and access the buttons and volume knob.
I tried the AVC's built in bluetooth for a while but decided to put the Parrot in as it performs better. The AVC surprisingly had decent sound quality (no real complaints from my callers) but the main bug for me was that it was slow to switch between music to the bluetooth source.
If anyone is interested, I can post a picture of my Parrot display
