Volkswagen Golf/Jetta SAT NAV

I'm interested to know if anyone knows where to have a look at this system somewhere in Sydney Metro.
I currently have the Blaupunkt DVD Sat Nav unit that was factory fitted in my late 2007 Passat Wagon, but it deosn't seem to have half of the features of this AVC-9000 unit.

Would really prefer a random track option, when is the software to be updated, can you flash it yourself?

well yesterday i had it installed, do get it done professionally it requires some wiring to be done.

All i can say is wow, for the 900.00 bucks it does everything i want and much more.

Things so far i have tried

Bluetooth
DVD
Radio
DIVX Movies
GPS
Reversing camera

I didn't install tv as it is analogue over 20kmh you loose signal, will install twin digital later.

I didn't install camera supplied to big, brought a slim numberplate unit from installer

Pluses
Look great like original
When loading dvd interface which is a media player VW Symbol displays
Sounds better than original
Display works great in full sunlight in car
Music and GPS at the same time
Can handle mutiple movies on one disc

Minuses
beeps when changing anything Vol,track etc
Bluetooth syncing cause's dvd to reload

Overall Awesome for price can live with Minuses for the 1500.00 in total spent.

I put my work mate onto this unit that has a Mk5 Jetta, got it fitted today. Brilliant. A real winner and nicely finished off too.

Oh and they'll fit in a Caddy, Darren (my mate that does auto electronics installations, and fitted this one) and i checked. I wasn't sure before, but they will.

Fitted mine last weekend. Its good but some things could be improved. I dont have the tv or rear view / reversing camera installed. The camera was too much hassle at this point, thou would have been nice. The analog tv should have been digital but tv was low on my requirements. The standard wiring harness / antenna / gps / ipod cables were easy to install, thou needed some cable ties to keep it clean and allow the unit to sit properly.

The annoying beep you only notice when stopped or driving slowly or music is loud. It plays mp3 cd's ok, thou the interface is basic. It does remember what the last track played is. However, when switching between NAVI to SRC the audio stops then starts quickly. Sometimes selecting SRC just stops whats currently playing, which is annoying.

Plugging in the ipod immediatly stops whats playing & switches to the ipod screen. The connector is a tight fit but this maybe the skin protector ive got. Need to play with this more.

The gps chipset is (I think) a sirfiii and with the antenna sitting on the dash, picks up 6-10 sats easily. The route66 software works but has old maps, as previously mentioned. I managed to get tomtom6 working on it yesterday, but still a couple of things to fix. The easiest way to install tomtom, is get a friend with a wince5 based (gps) device, put a new sd card in it & install tomtom onto that sd card. Then in the avc9000 gps options, change the gps link to the exe.

I havent found how to start the wince explorer and it doesnt seem to have activesync, which is frustrating. It has a text edit app but is next to useless, as the only storage you can browse is the sd card.

I have paired my mobile with the bluetooth but not checked out call quality etc yet.

The sound is good, thou the balance / fader / bass /treble all have large incremental changes. should be smaller. The onscreen display of volume etc is small green lettering, which is usually unreadable with the backgrounds / apps used. The 2 volume buttons on the wheel work. havent tried the ph button yet.

I think this unit could be improved by having user selectable skins and perhaps 'better' software. Hopefully some firmware updates may appear.

Loving mine!!! No beeps for me. The rear camera will get fitted as soon as I have a few minutes. The GPS arial is under the top dash grill and picks up perfectly even inside my workshop. No minuses as far as I am concerned. The fit is factory tolerances.'for me the reversing camera will be used as such.....
