There are quite a few guides here and on youtube.

      TL DR:

      1) Take out head unit
      2) Using a bit of yellow tongue (or something similar) transfer wire harness cable through to underneath driver's side seat
      3) Set up bluetooth module and plug in
      4) Run microphone through factory location
      5) Re-assemble everything and verify it all works
      6)

        • does anyone know if swapping the whole panel which has additional bluetooth buttons would be compatible with 9wz units.
Thinking of swapping my standard dome lights panel with this one which has preset bluetooth button..any additional vcds coding needed?
also would this be easy to swap?

Would need to have the additional wires run from the overhead console down the a pillar and into the Bluetooth module.
Then it would need to be coded.
To me it seems the effort to reward ratio seems pretty high...

            • HI all,

I have a Mk5 Golf GTi with the original version of the RNS510. The car didn't come with bluetooth and I bought the bluetooth unit that goes under the drivers seat. I believe it is the Skoda kit otherwise known as the 9W3 kit.

THis has been fine for years. Last week I got a new phone, an Essential PH1. I've connected it to the car. It pairs okay and the phone details appear on the MFD.

However, the RNS510 shows the message "no user connected".

Can someone point me in the right direction? Can't find anything on the web. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with Bluetooth 5.0

Have a look under the seat and get the part number and software version off the sticker

                  • There is no firmware update available for that bluetooth module.
Apart from unpairing and repairing the device you would probably have to try and test your phone with a different bluetooth module like a 9w7 or 9za, 9zz etc

thanks kamold, my sunroof switch is buggered so I want to replace it so thought of doing the whole lot...VW says the whole panel has to be replaced @ about $500 can not just get sunroof rotary switch itself...From your experience when retrofitting these do you remember if the rotary switch can be swapped...If not I would replace the whole panel and have the dummy bluetooth buttons do nothing. as u said if u have to run an extra cable down to 9wz IT IS TOTALLY not worth it....

I've never tried to replace the switch.
It does look like it is available as a seperate part though...

But it might be cheaper to get a whole console from a wrecker

I've tried pairing and unpairing a couple of times.

My previous phones have paired with no problem. Last being a Samsung S6.
