  • I'm trying to get bluetooth streaming with track display and mfsw controls working in my MK6 R. I've done some reading over the last few days and I think the problem is that my bluetooth module is too old and doesn't support AVRCP.

    I have a RNS510 headunit (1TO 035 680 C) and 9W7 bluetooth unit (5K0 035 730 B). Bluetooth streaming currently works, but the display on the RNS510 just says "Bluetooth-Audio" - it doesn't show artist/track info and the play/pause and skip buttons are disabled.

If I buy a late model 9W7 bluetooth unit can I do a straight swap? I assume there are no differences between revisions of the same 9W7 model family regarding cable connections and such?

I'm looking at buying this NEW 9W7 VW Skoda Seat Bluetooth Control Unit Module 7P6 035 730 M 7P6035730M | eBay Which looks to be a direct replacement (looks identical to my current unit - barring the model name)

Can any one see any glaring faults with this plan?

    • Yep straight swap and you will get avrcp 1.3 support.

      • I currently have a RCD 510 (Bosch 5K0 035 190 (non a or b)) and Novero 9w2 (1K8 051 730 B) (dealer fitted). I purchased a 9w7 (5K0 035 730 F SW 2902 HW: H09) from another forum member (who says it was working in their car).

I have tried a direct swap of the two units but the 9w7 doesn't appear to be working, when i turn on the car there are no discoverable bluetooth devices on my phone?

Does anybody have any ideas how to get it to work?

        • I'd get hold of someone with vcds to scan the car and check what the status of that new unit is. Possibly loose connection or pin etc

I had a suspicion that might be the case. I assume that having the phone menu on the MFD needs to be activated? Looks like i might need to track down someone in brisbane with VCDS. Thanks

                  • Hi Guys,

I have a VW/Skoda 9WZ Premium Bluetooth module 5N0035730D that I'd be looking at swapping for a recent 9W7 (as I don't use the RSAP function) honestly I haven't kept up with what the pick of the vw bluetooth options are these days so if this is completely unreasonable request (or if I should be looking for something other than a 9w7) feel free to let me know. is there anyone here that would be interested?

                    • Hi forum

In past months I've needed to "reset" the bluetooth module 3 times.
Wot causes this annoying repeated failure, and how can it be avoided ?

Yes, locating the BT module (an RF transmitting device) so close to the driver's body seems to be an unusual design decision (aka mistake), but thats a separate issue.

                      • More information required.
                        Which bt module?
Why do you need to reset the bt module and what exactly do you mean by reset?
What head unit and firmware is it connected to?

                        • I'm not sure what BT module or headunit. Its stock equipment in Mk VI Golf TDi.
I'll do some research for exact details.
                          Symptoms as follows :
The phone menu sometimes disappears from the dashboard display.
To fix this failure, I learned to disconnect the BT module (under driver's seat), start the engine for 10 seconds, switch off, reconnect the BT module, then restart engine, phone menu re-appears and works as intended.
I call this disconnect-reconnect dance, a "BT reset".

                          • OK that sounds like an actual physical issue. As in cabling harness.
A scan with vcds would confirm if the bt module is not being directed periodically.
Then I'd be looking at the harness and unit itself for possible issues with a loose pin in the connector block.
If still under warranty I would take it to your dealer to handle.

                              • I've got an RCD 510(Delphi)+9w2 in my 2007 Jetta and I've never had phone book functionality and I just assumed it was a limitation of the 9w2. Today when reading the classifieds I saw that someone has a 9w7 and RCD 510 working with phone book (albeit with display issues). If I swap in the 9w7 would I immediately have the phone book feature or would I need to recode ? Is it possible that the RCD 510 simply doesn't support the phone book? I've read that with the 9w2 it is possible to have a phone book but only with the newer MFD possibly. Would someone please enlighten me?
